The Birds and the Bees by [archiveofourown.org profile] Lbilover
Lord Legerwood, unknotting with the ease of long practice the tangled skein of his wife's speech, said, "Do I take it you want me to discuss the niceties of love-making with Freddy?"

"Yes," replied his other half baldly.

He could think of a dozen things he would rather do than hold such a conversation with his son, among them walking barefoot over hot coals or strolling down Bond Street without trousers. But he knew that Emma, scatterbrained as she could be, was right. Discreet inquiries over the years since Freddy's majority had yielded no evidence that he ever kept a mistress or even visited one of those establishments that catered to a gentleman's needs. Freddy was undoubtedly as virginal as his bride-to-be, and perhaps a few pointers wouldn't go amiss to help get the newlyweds off to a good start.

"Very well, Emma," he said, resigned to his fate. "I will have a talk with Freddy."
And hilarity ensues. This gets the voices just right. So adorable!

"We have a fraught thing happening?" Casey asked faintly.

"Women send us panties in the mail?" Dan asked doubtfully.

"Lots of panties," Natalie sighed. Dan and Casey both looked at her. "We screen them out. The last thing you need is to get a box of strange women's panties every month."

"Luke. Are you seeing this??"

"I'm seeing it."

"Uh, no. If you were seeing this, then you would see that this--" She pauses, does some Vanna White arms-- "obviously has Lorelai Gilmore written all over it."

'This' is a shower curtain covered in cartoon hippos with really big eyes. The eyes of some hippos who have been dabbling with some illegal substances. (As hippos do.) Just between you and her, Lorelai's not really that into it. She is not the same woman who once fell in love at first sight with what her mother christened a "semi-pornographic, leering monkey lamp." She's got higher standards for her semi-pornographic interior design decisions these days. But. The hippos have 'Luke will freak in the face of us!' written aaaall over 'em. She has to at least tease him with the horrifying possibility of a life where this dwells in their bathroom.

"You know what," Luke says then, with this appraising little nod, "yeah. I can see it."

At seven, Lilo wants to grow up to be an intergalactic space hero.

Stitch shows her how to build plasma guns (Nani puts them on a high shelf), how to rig up a can opener and a radio into a machine that will open a portal to an alternate universe (Nani says she can't do it in the house) and how to first swallow and then regurgitate useful objects, like handcuff keys or quarters (Nani, though disgusted, can't help but be impressed). She and Stitch roam the forests and swim the ocean and are the best of friends, and though Lilo doesn't talk much to other kids, she has Stitch and she has Nani and they are all she needs. She dreams at night of a future among space aliens, green and wriggly, tall and blue, grave and comic and of infinite variety, and when she wakes she can still see their cities behind her eyes, gleaming and verdant.
This made me all teary and achy in exactly the same way as the movie. *sniffle* Oh, my heart.

"You just gave me head in the men's room because the George Mason Patriots made it to the Elite Eight," he says. "We are here and romance is way over there." Hopeful, sweet and funny. Dan and Casey's relationship as charted via GMU's improbable run at the NCAAs last year.

Lookout Mountain Is Actually a Plateau by [livejournal.com profile] janet_carter
Dana sends Dan to Chattanooga to cover a story. Wacky hijinks ensue. Hilarious and wonderfully in character.

Reruns All Become Our History by [livejournal.com profile] likethesun2
That two days after Sam's funeral, Dan's mother had come upon Dan crying in his room, and had put a hand on his forehead and said, "Don't be sad, Daniel." He must expend a lot of energy, spending his life trying not to be. Oh, Danny. *sniffle* Lovely and sad.

Some Other Beginning's End by [livejournal.com profile] luzdeestrellas
Dan laughs, loves this Casey, desperate and wanting, his lists reduced to tragically weak imitations of their usual verbosity. "It's your eloquence that keeps me here," he says, and he pulls Casey on top of him, a tangle of limbs and want and need Danny would stay caught in forever if Casey would let him. Lovely story of the second chances Dan and Casey keep trying to have.

Grey's Anatomy/Sports Night
Dry, With a Twist by [livejournal.com profile] fox1013
Addison Montgomery meets Dan Rydell in a bar. Witty conversation overlays loneliness. I love how they can't quite connect. Lovely.

Good Omens/Harry Potter
Once More With Feeling by [livejournal.com profile] xylodemon
Absolutely AWESOME HP/GO crossover. Heaven and Hell suit up for round two of the apocalypse, and this time, Hell's got a wily plan. Aziraphale and Crowley team up with Harry Potter to thwart it. Dead on characterization, deft handling of the xover, heaps of fun.

*

Angel/Supernatural
Unhappy the Land That Has No Heroes by [livejournal.com profile] alizarin_nyc
Dean's out of his depth, Angel can't resist a new mission, and Faith's still trying to make a place for herself. Hotness ensues. I really like the desperation and melancholy threading through this.

Supernatural/Smallville
All Circles Warming Up by k.
"That wasn't a demon. That was something else. Do you really believe in demons?" "You don't? You were after a green glowing blob thing but somehow demons makes me the crazy one." Dean and Chloe meet, snark, and have hot sex. Mmm...tasty.

Butch lesbian!Dean/Velma from Scooby-Doo. No, seriously. And it *works*.

Wonderful Dan/Casey five things story.

Hang on Tooth and Nail by [livejournal.com profile] luzdeestrellas
Gorgeous, wistful Dan/Dana that nails their voices, and captures what Casey means to them. "Did you know?" [...] "From the semi-demented look on your face, I'm sensing that knowing's gonna end badly for me. Given that, no, I really, really didn't."

Even Sugar Peas Run Out of Snap by k.
So I don't even ship Dan/Casey, and this story is in first person, which I normally avoid like the plague, but oh, Danny! Wah! Dan and Casey get together, and then they fall apart. Exquisitely painful and true to both Dan and Casey. *whimper*

and we are all together by [livejournal.com profile] leiascully
Oh, oh. No words... *flails* Dan, Dana, Casey, Natalie, Jeremy, in many, many combinations, coming together and loving each other in so many possible ways. Gorgeous, sensual, stunning.

Lovely, in character story in which Emily does not want to be forgotten, and Rory promises she won't be.

A Separate Peace

If A Lie May Do Thee Grace (Only the Good Die Young Remix) by Thistlerose
I love this story more than I can possibly tell you. I cried like a baby while reading it, and sat staring at the screen for a full ten minutes before I could actually be coherent enough to type feedback for it, because it's just, it's Finny, and he's trying to connect with Gene, and he never quite does, and it breaks my fucking heart into a million pieces just like the book, and like I wish my original story did, but doesn't quite. This is just... I would have your metaphorical babies in return for writing this story. (remix of my own To Speak Is To Lie)

Every Day a Little Death by A S Lawrence
Dan's 34th birthday, and Casey's been gone a while. Sharp and achy. And the remix Every Day a Little Death (The Killing Joke Remix) by bj, which is fabulously bleak and exquisitely painful. Casey is, as always, an ass, leaving carnage behind him. And then running into some himself. Ouch.

The Consequences of Bloody Manchester, or Why Summoning Demons Is a BAD Idea. by [livejournal.com profile] io_aenaria
Okay, this story had me at Mrs. Black's given name being Olympias. She conjures up Crowley for a bit of the old in-out and, well, there are unexpected consequences. Hee!

SportsNight/The Muppets
Five Muppets Isaac's Pretty Sure He Never Hired by Amy

Beautiful Sorta by [livejournal.com profile] circusgirl
Dan/Dana! I know! Beautifully written and spot-on Danny voice.

A quote:
The thing about Dan, the thing that makes him either sexist or chivalrous, a gentleman or a cad, is that he can't stand to see a beautiful woman cry. She doesn't even have to be beautiful, really. Pretty, marginally attractive, homely, hideous, there is something about a woman that is bigger than magic, and there's not a lot Dan believes in, in the way of magic, but women are it. A woman crying means something is horribly wrong, and it hurts Dan's heart.

Most excellent fic dealing with Alison, and how she feels about her makeover and her life, such as it is, and how she will get her revenge on Will.

Buffy

Night Mail by Dolores
Xander and Oz share a berth on a train. Lazy, half-buzzed, lulling and erotic. This story is a slow, warm build of heat.

Gilmore Girls

Get It On the Table by Anna S.
Love Luke! I adore Luke and I love Lorelai, though I’d like to strangle her a lot of the time, and Anna captures that quality in her, her ability to be both obsessive and commitment-phobic. And Luke, though a force of nature in his own right, seems completely unable to do anything but be drawn along in her wake. Lovely fic.

SportsNight

Those Stories Plus by violet and cinnamon
Fic that reads like an episode of the show, and god, there so aren’t enough of those (episodes and fic that reads like episodes both). Dana’s in a tizzy, Casey’s self-involved, Dan’s in love with cheese - it’s just note-perfect.
