There was an Understanding.

The Understanding was: Her Grace, Lady Sybil Deidre Olgivanna Ramkin, had, on the twelfth of May, married Captain Samantha Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork Watch. It was a very lovely ceremony. There had been cake.

Oh my heart. this is wonderful!

Really excellent story about Vetinari and Moist and Death and taxes.

Stratigraphic Context by [archiveofourown.org profile] Aderam
"What's the plan?" John asked, redirecting the muzzle of the large gun towards the floor and pointedly taking it from Sam's hand.

"Run for the nearest exit," Sam offered ruefully, leading the way into the hallway. She could hear John's huff of disapproval behind her even over the sounds of people running in their direction.

"I don't think I like your plan," he replied.
Post-movie John and Sam for me! I like how they keep rescuing each other, and I hope that they have a peaceful future free of UAC, and this story gives me both of those things. <3

The Art of Bluffing by [archiveofourown.org profile] CousinShelley
"You're going to sit there until I fall asleep, aren't you? Staring me into submission."

"You wanted to be alone. In Hawkeye logic, that means you don't want to be alone. So I'm going to sit here, yes." She slipped her hand under the edge of the covers and took his, holding it firmly, thumb brushing over the back. "But if you tell anybody I've gone soft and tucked you in, I'll mix castor oil into your still."

Really lovely look at Hawkeye and Margaret's friendship. The ending definitely made me tear up. *sniff*

Hark the Herald Reptiles Sing by [archiveofourown.org profile] Bow
"You see, in essentials we are not so very different. I believe it comes from—your previous life," she says smugly. "There's a kind of affinity between a good surgeon and a talented painter. You grow accustomed to looking inside of people, to seeing on levels that normal people can't reach. Pulling bodies to pieces."

"Some of us do our best to reassemble them," says Joan
Joan and Moriarty share some similarities but it's the differences that are most important. Really nicely done.

Fruitful by [archiveofourown.org profile] Resonant
The wedding of Cheery Littlebottom and Keen Slatequarry lasted precisely two and a half minutes, which made it by far the best wedding Sam Vimes had ever attended, despite the disturbing abundance of axes and the complete incomprehensibility of Grag Bashfullsson's homily. Hee!

Star Trek Reboot

A More Imperfect Union by [archiveofourown.org profile] igrockspock
He and Gaila lie to each other for fun, and they're totally open in bed. She likes everything he has to suppress to be a good captain -- and a good human being, really -- and being with her makes him feel like he's actually okay the way he is. Of course an escaped Orion pirate slave is the woman for him. Feelings are hard, but Kirk and Gaila are figuring them out. Aw. This is adorable.

A blur of blue up the front of Jayne's t-shirt, and there is a noise like someone hitting a steak. Jayne staggers, cross-eyed with the effort of looking at the thing astride his nose. The creature butts him again.

"Crivens, isnae many Bigjobs can tek a second heidful o' Wee Begbie." says a small admiring voice, just before he passes out.
Exactly what it says on the tin. Absolutely HILARIOUS.

Middleman/The Tick

Brief, adorably hilarious Middleman/The Tick crossover.

Elementary/The Good Wife

with her killer graces and her secret places by [personal profile] crossedwires
Joan opens the front door and leans on the door frame, projecting nonchalance as much as she can. "You don't call, you don't write, you don't reply to any of my messages. I was starting to think you broke up with me and forgot to let me know."

"We're not in a relationship, remember?" In her boots, Kalinda is a good three inches taller than a barefoot Joan, who straightens up as Kalinda reaches for her. "I've been caught up at work. You know how it goes."

Joan stands on her tiptoes, balancing on Kalinda's arm, so they're almost eye-to-eye. "I could've sworn there were phones in Chicago the last time I visited."

"Yeah, well... Surprise?" says Kalinda, with a tiny forgive-me? smile. And Joan is lost, between that smile, those boots and this kiss.
Brief, lovely Joan Watson/Kalinda Sharma. Yes, please.

Flash Paper by [archiveofourown.org profile] Bard
Arson was not a popular crime in Ankh-Morpork. Not an unheard of crime, of course, because Ankh-Morpork was nothing if not a city of extremely heard crime. But even in the lowest of low places1 among the city streets, it was rare. River water you could stand on and the general public’s realization that hey, this building is touching that building and that building and thatbuilding is my house made most potential arsonists follow their survival instincts and join the Alchemists’ Guild instead.2

The lack of fire insurance helped, as well.3
Ahahahahaha, an awesomely perfect little slice of Vimes and the Watch.

Hen Party by [archiveofourown.org profile] perryvic
Nanny Ogg organizes a hen party for Tiffany before her wedding. This is just note perfect - hilarious (Greebo's appearance is AMAZING) and then touching and true at the end. *sniffle*

Persuasion in the City by [archiveofourown.org profile] Roga
I haven't read Snuff yet, so possibly I'm missing some finer nuances, but this is hilarious.

The way she turned the Commander of the Watch's words into mere advice reminded Vimes of Vetinari; using a turn of phrase to script her own reality.

Mister Vimes'd Go Spare! by [archiveofourown.org profile] Lunik
"But being as we are watchmen, it is our duty to watch. I shall have to know what happened one way or another, so it's best you answer the questions, isn't it?"

The not-quite-a-suspect-yet in front of him narrowed his eyes. For a moment, Evans thought he might try you can't talk to me like that again, but he passed on that in favour of blustering "That's tidy, that is! And who watches the Watchmen, eh?"

Evans' smile grew wider. That was an easy question, ask any watchman. "Why, Sam 'Stoneface' Vimes does, sir." It had been a couple of decades now since the last of the genuine sammies had retired off the force, much longer since Vimes had died himself, but at the time it was widely agreed that a man like Sam Vimes wasn't going to let a thing like being dead stop him from doing his duty.

"Ha," Evans continued, "catch us derelict in our duties, sir – Vimes'd go spare! So don't you worry about us, when you ought to be thinking about who it is can tell me for fact where you were on the night of Sektober fourteenth…"
This is a wonderful look at how Vimes's legacy lives on after he's gone.

Modern Love by [archiveofourown.org profile] Penknife
"Look at it this way," Piers said. "It's not like anyone knows less about me than they do about a dwarf who's dressed in trousers. More, really, because a dwarf in trousers could be male or female. And everyone can see that I'm female."

"I see that," Angua said, but she looked bemused. "I really didn't expect this kind of thing," she said finally. "I didn't think dwarfs were generally ... well, very complicated in this particular way."

Piers shook her head. "You have no idea."
Dwarves are more complicated than even they expected. Really well done.

Queen of the Cats by [archiveofourown.org profile] Gehayi

Midwinter by [archiveofourown.org profile] kindkit
They pulled aside the blanket and lay on the old linen sheet, soft from a hundred washings; Havelock's asceticism had circled accidentally back and become sensuality. It was like the stern, close-clipped beard Drumknott had always wanted to feel against his skin, the precise fingers he'd always wanted to taste. Long, engrossing, really well done look at Drumknott's relationship with Vetinari, and how they move from boss and assistant to more.

"So, this Halloween. It involves Otherworldly creatures terrifying normal people while you stand around singing songs about it?"

"Yes! Only you make it sound so wrong," Jack complained. "And I just don't stand around." He puffed up and posed dramatically. "I am the Pumpkin King!"

Susan wasn't impressed. Jack visibly deflated.
Hee! This is delightful.

The Good Wife/White Collar

A Lady and a Gentleman In Black by hederahelix

Indiana Jones/Casablanca

Indiana Jones and the Standard of Dishonour by vomit_bunny

Narnia/No Reservations

No Reservations: Narnia by Edonohana
Recced everywhere, and for good reason. Perfectly nails both canons with wit and sharp-eyed detail. I'm crammed into a burrow so small that my knees are up around my ears and the boom mike keeps slamming into my head, inhaling the potent scent of toffee-apple brandy and trying to drink a talking mouse under the table. But is it really the boom mike that's making my head pound? I know for sure that my camera man doesn't usually have two heads. I have to face facts. The mouse is winning.

Star Trek Reboot/Firefly

Symmetry in Orbit by [livejournal.com profile] betweenthebliss
Pavel has been waiting all his life for a friend like this. Between classes they debate derivative theoretics outside in the Academy's regal shadow, Pavel stretched out beneath a tree, River pacing barefoot with blades of grass tickling her ankles. The table in the alcove facing the ocean on the fourth floor of the library becomes theirs; they study until late at night beside the open window, listening to the sounds of the sea. On the weekends they take the BART to the beach, sharing a pair of headphones to tune in to the Vulcan Science Academy's weekly podcast, and Pavel walks in the surf with his pant legs rolled up, while ahead of him River dances joyfully with the waves. Chekov and River being BABY GENIUSES together at the Academy. *hearts*

The Uninvited Guest by akamarykate
I really enjoyed this. DEATH asks Granny Weatherwax to take his christening gift for Susan to her. Her parents aren't quite sure how to respond. Hilarious and adorable.

Jeeves and Wooster

The Aunt and the Ankh by Curtana
Lack of fondness for newts on the part of the putative father-in-law had been the undoing of many an engagement of Gussie's. It had often made me wish I'd had the foresight to cultivate some obscure and socially unacceptable hobby in my youth, something I could pull out at necessary intervals to extricate myself from unwanted matches. Competitive blancmange eating, say, or, collecting potatoes that resemble famous politicians. Hee! Hilarity at a wedding, with a fine Bertie voice. (Hints at Jeeves/Wooster, but you can ignore that.)

AH, YES. BROWARD COUNTY. AN INTRIGUING COSMIC WRINKLE. THE AUDITORS WERE EXTREMELY VEXED. THE REQUIRED INJUNCTIONS ALONE RESULTED IN UNIVERSAL DELAYS. I HEAR THE PAPERWORK WAS EXTENSIVE. DEATH comes for Sam and Dean. Hilarity (with a side of heartbreak) ensues. "I don't think we punch Death, okay? I don't think that's something we do. Why don't you stand back here and chill for a second?" Hee!
