Next to Me Is All That You Need to Be by [personal profile] lovelythings
"Booth..." she starts and then lets her voice trail off. She stands there for a minute with a tiny little smile on her face and shrugs. "I was wrong."

There's too much space between them. He crosses the room to stand in front of her, staring straight into her eyes. "That doesn't sound like you."

"No," she says, "it's me. I was wrong."

"I'll mark it on the calendar," he says.

oh my heart. This is totally how it has to go. If the show doesn't provide, this will totally be my canon. *happy sigh*

Firefly

Unnatural Selection by [livejournal.com profile] mousewitchy
He is something more than human, now. All of his impurities, his human failings have been washed away, purged in the heat of the divine wrath that filled him. A burning fire, the ultimate test of his soul, and it didn’t leave room for anything else.

He is the hand of God. He is here to purify the masses, the same way he was purified himself. He will take their sins and weaknesses in unto himself and leave them nothing but the righteous, cleansing fury that fills him even now. His cup overfloweth.

It is better this way. He is better, now. Gone are the petty human failings that had once defined him; gone are the trifling and troublesome worries that plagued him. He is more now, he is stronger. He is drunk on the glory of his own existence.

Exceptionally creepy story of the crew of Serenity waiting out a Reaver attack post-movie.

The Middleman

Blame it on the French by [livejournal.com profile] monimala
"Uh, I hate to interrupt your hero-sidekick banter, Dub-Dub, but did you and Sexy Bossman miss the part where we're supposed to *have sex*?" Her voice rose at the end of the question, and MM actually winced, like he was a dog hearing a particularly shrill whistle. "I have to have sex with you both or *die*," she emphasized. "Which is very indicative of a grossly patriarchal society, I might add."

Aliens make them do it! With Lacey along for the ride. Funny, hot, and sweet.

"You've probably made lists of them. In a book. An indexed book. An indexed book, in which all even-numbered pages are allocated to you, and odd-numbered ones to me. That, my friend, is the kind of person you are, and you are going to come into my home, and you're going to make schedules for all the cleaning activities, and an ordered system by which we will choose which TV programs we watch, and you'll start alphabetising things. And I will wish for death. And death will not come, Casey. Death will purposefully stay away, simply because it, too, is enjoying my pain and suffering."

Casey needs to crash at Dan's for a few days. Dan's not thrilled, but they work it out in the end. With adorable banter, because that's what they do.

"I… it's a tuxedo. It fits. I like it."

"Go put it on," Neal said. Peter opened his mouth to reply, but before he could make a sound, Neal held up his hand. "Go and get it and put it on and come back down here and show me."

Peter snorted. "So you can mock it like you mock my best suit?"

"Your 'best' suit is a travesty." Again Peter opened his mouth, and again Neal held up his hand. "Peter, there are a very few, very specific things that I do better than almost anybody. This is one of the only ones left that I can still do and remain a free man."

Adorable and bantery. Neal and Elizabeth convince Peter to buy a new tuxedo.

How To Write Letters Home to Your Sisters (Notes) by [livejournal.com profile] danahid
You try to describe Gaila, how when she laughs, her freckled nose wrinkles; how the early morning sunlight bounces off her red curls; how her skin glows green with health. You try to convey just how loud Gaila is when she sings "My Baby Just Cares For Me" at the top of her lungs. She is so loud that she drowns out Nina Simone, you tell your sisters. Despite your best efforts, you are sure that your descriptions don't do Gaila justice. Your sisters can't possibly understand from your paltry words that Gaila is gusts and storms of being, that she lives every minute of every day with joy and truth. They can't understand that when Gaila invites you to dance with her, she teaches you things your instructors only know in the abstract. Because you're a good big sister, you keep trying to explain. You look up synonyms and draw pictures. In the end, you write: Freedom isn't just a word. It's a way of being. Beautiful story of the letters Uhura writes home to her sisters.

*sniffle* Lovely look at Gaila growing up, with the sister who took care of her. Nice evocation of what being sisters feels like.

Narnia/Mary Poppins

Winds to Catch by animus_wyrmis & be_themoon & lassiterfics
Utterly wonderful Narnia/Mary Poppins crossover. This world does not know of small miracles and not-quite-tame lions, but if Susan prides herself on anything, it is her ability to move on and not be crippled by fear or loss or grief. So she does just that, until the day when the East Wind starts to blow in the streets and Mary Poppins steps neatly out of the sky and takes her by the hand.

"Come with me," Mary says, and Susan doesn't hesitate because this is the second chance she thought she'd already lost alongside everyone who could give it to her.

Supernatural

And Other Legends by [livejournal.com profile] dotfic
But he knew they were superheroes because he read a lot of comic books and some of them, especially the ones without special powers, had to do training. Even after they were good at it, they still practiced. Also, he couldn't think of anybody else who would be fighting each other like that at a rest stop unless they were mortal enemies. Adorable outsider POV on a Winchester sparring session.

Jo and Sarah team up to hunt during the apocalypse. I really enjoyed this.

From Ashes by [livejournal.com profile] whereupon
"Do you even know where we're going?" Dean asked, loud over the noise of the wind and the engine.

"Uh, yeah," Sam said, just as loudly. "East."

Dean stared at him, waiting for the punchline, for an explanation, until Sam told him to keep his eyes on the road, please, which was close enough. He turned up the music and there was sunlight and the reverberations of the engine, the open road and Sam, like nothing had happened, like he hadn't ever been gone. And they couldn't start again, couldn't erase anything, but maybe they could move on, maybe they could pretend.

Maybe they would be okay, all the same.
Beautiful, quiet story of what Sam and Dean did in an alternate s4, where Sam rescued Dean from hell and they stopped the apocalypse. (Wincest)

The Many Faces Of by [livejournal.com profile] shantirosa
The things called angels found her on the soil of their worshippers. She will find them here, in this land where the earth burns for the weight of her feet. This land that is hers. Kali, in the aftermath of 5.19. Fixes some of the episode's fail.

Not the Way He Wanted to Win by [livejournal.com profile] weesta
Hard, heartbreaking coda to 5.16. “Do what you want, Sam.” The accompanying laugh was bitter, implying that’s just what Sam would do anyway. So much for Dean understanding Sam’s point of view.

The Witch of Lincoln County by [livejournal.com profile] keerawa
Really cool story about the first meeting between John Winchester and Bobbi Singer. "Bobbi Singer runs the salvage yard just across the county line. Back in the seventies, she murdered her own husband. Chopped off his head with an axe."
