Prequel to "No, Mr. Bond, I Expect You to Pine" (previously recced), in which Bucky rescues Wanda and Pietro from HYDRA. Aw, Bucky instinctively being a good big brother even with his memories still hazy is so great.

Non-Prophet Organisation by [archiveofourown.org profile] leveragehunters
When a PhD student accidentally uncovers a plot to summon a demon and destroy the world, Captain America is the only one she can get to listen to her. Steve, Sam and Bucky will fly half-way around the globe to investigate, but can they get there in time to stop the ritual and save the world?

(All signs point to yes as an answer to at least one of those questions.)
Hee! This is hilarious. And it also has an equally funny sequel: Herd of Goats?

The Soul of Love by [archiveofourown.org profile] Traincat
Peter was different than Johnny had imagined he'd be, with them together, whenever Johnny had guiltily let himself imagine it. He was goofy. A little ridiculous. Stupidly romantic. It had been so long since Johnny had had this, and never with the sheer intensity Peter poured into it.

Johnny didn't know why he was surprised; everything about Peter was like someone had turned the knob up to eleven. All the complaining he did as Peter pulled him to his feet was a bad cover for how much he loved it.
Wistfully sweet Johnny/Peter.

they're gonna send us to prison for jerks by [archiveofourown.org profile] napricot
It was just—Jack's voice. Southern accent aside, he sounded exactly like Bucky.

At least, Steve thought he did. His inner rational Sam gently suggested it might be wishful thinking. Do you remember his voice well enough to be sure? It had been over seventy years, or nearly five, depending on how you counted, since Steve had properly heard Bucky's voice. His brief interactions with the Winter Soldier didn't count, what with all the agonized screaming and gunfire and shrieking metal. And history hadn't preserved the sound of Bucky's voice. Steve had checked. It had just been Captain America who spoke on all those propaganda films and newsreels, his Howling Commandos silent and relegated to montages and still pictures. He couldn't be too resentful though, not when history had preserved the precious sight of Bucky laughing and smiling, caught in one perfect loop in the Smithsonian.

So maybe Steve just didn't remember Bucky's voice, not perfectly. He'd been half deaf for the better part of their friendship after all. Maybe his memory didn't hold the exact softness of Bucky's voice, its particular pitch. Maybe all the certainty he had left was in how its soothing and smooth tones had meant home and safe when Bucky had read to him when he'd been too sick to read himself. Maybe he could only be sure of the animated rise and fall of Bucky's chatter, the way he'd talked and talked when he got home from work, regaling Steve with the latest neighborhood gossip or the plot of whatever pulp novel he was reading.

Whatever Steve did or didn't remember, however imperfect the memory of Bucky's voice, listening to Jack plucked at some chord in Steve's heart, and set it to thrumming. It didn't matter that Steve was wedged uncomfortably in a tree's branches, it didn't matter that Jack was just talking about equations and math terms Steve didn't know or care about. He sounded like Bucky.
Hilarious and sweet reunion story.

Bucky picks up his beer for a sip. It must be good beer, the way he tips his head back for a deeper drink, lips opening to let more of the neck of the bottle slide between them. The cold glass is green, his mouth redder by contrast, wet with condensation when he lets the bottle slip free.

Steve doesn't mean to stare. He tells himself it's the artist in him, that it's fascinating the way Bucky's mouth is almost too pretty for a man's, pouty and curving like something you would draw. Bucky's too well-trained now not to feel Steve's eyes. He meets them from across the room and slowly brings the bottle to his mouth again for another drink. His lips wrap greedy and tight around the glass, his throat working to swallow.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Maggie Fitzgerald and the Saltwater Drip by [livejournal.com profile] antistar_e
An absolutely fantastic 80k word AU of The Amazing Spider-Man where Gwen is the one who gets bit by a spider and becomes Spider-Man. I cried my way through this much as I cried my way through the movie (which, as you know, Bob, I did several times), because it absolutely gets the most important things about Spider-Man as a hero, and it actually considers women and people of color and other populations who aren't straight, white men. Which makes it sound preachy or agenda-driven, but it's not. It's just brilliant about understanding the differences that would occur because Gwen is the one under the mask, and also lets her have a heroic origin without fridging anyone. And the relationships are brilliantly drawn, too - not just Gwen and Peter, but Flash and MJ and Miles all make appearances. I draw a million sparkly hearts around this story. Highly, highly recommended. *happy sigh* (It does need another beta pass, and someone to do some NYC-picking, but eh, I was too enthralled to let it bother me much.)

Molly & Tommy friendship fic. Oh my heart. This is adorable and it made me a little sniffly at the end. Molly convinces Tommy to take her to the movies in the aftermath of Children's Crusade.

Scenes from a Wedding by [archiveofourown.org profile] Traincat
Billy and Teddy are getting married. With all the shenanigans that entails. This is adorable.

Through the Mines by [archiveofourown.org profile] Traincat
Really wonderful look at Eli and Kate (and the rest of the team) post Children's Crusade; they fall into a long distance relationship that's sweet and achy and full of potential. <3

Clint's got a new partner (♥KATE♥) and a dog and no idea what he's doing, but things seem to be working out all right. <3

A Wedding and Some Arrows by [archiveofourown.org profile] bendingwind
"Hey, Jess is the one who dumped you for her best friend and then invited you to the wedding and insisted that you bring a date even though she knew you weren't seeing anyone. You're just lucky I took pity on you and decided to let you tote me around as arm candy for the evening."

"Yeah, thanks for that," Clint mumbled. "It definitely wasn't the judgemental looks from all the party guests or the talk about Taking Advantage Of Your Youth And Hero-Worship that Steve tried to give me that drove me to drink."

"Oooo, sarcasm," Kate drawled, and she clinked her bottle of wine against Clint's glass and then gulped some down.
Ahahahaha! Hawkeye & Hawkeye, drunk and hilarious up on the roof. <3

The Amazing Spider-man

Bros Before Superheroes by [archiveofourown.org profile] jdphoenix
He throws an arm around Peter's shoulders and turns them both down the street in the opposite direction Peter wants to go. "We'll get through this, man, you and me. I want you to know, I am no longer a fan of Spider-man on Facebook. That's how much I'm here for you." He hitches his arm a little tighter around Peter. "There's a boxing match on tonight and we'll order pizza and laugh at dirty jokes. And, if you're ready for it, we can talk about her. Don't worry! I won't say her name! There will be a firm, no G-word rule while we have man-time." Flash is there for Peter when he discovers Gwen is cheating on him with Spider-man. Aw, Flash. Adorably hilarious.

A Guide to Caring for Your Very Own Spider-Boyfriend by [Anonymous]
The first time he clambers in through her window (back when her father was still alive oh god –) Gwen doesn't think much of it and her reaction is mostly fond incredulity. Peter Parker has always been kind of awkward, a contradiction in terms: inviting one second, all bashful intellect and charm, yet crushingly antisocial the next. Gwen knows this because they've been at the same school since elementary, orbiting each other like planetary bodies, even if it's only recently that they've actually been brought into close contact with each other.

(Maybe they're not planets. Maybe he's the sun and she's Icarus: she can feel the wax burning her fingers as it boils and melts –)

So when he taps on the window pane, it's just one more piece in the puzzle that is Peter Parker. It doesn't hurt that she finds his awkwardness unbearably endearing.
Really lovely Gwen/Peter that doesn't forget that Gwen is also a scientist.

promise not to promise anymore by [archiveofourown.org profile] professor_spork
Peter isn't here, Peter didn't save him, Peter lied.

I've got you, he'd said. A pretty lie. She told him how she didn't think she could do it twice, how the uncertainty weighed on her, never knowing if her dad would come home. And Peter had held her close and Peter had kissed her and Peter had filled her heart with empty promises about how it would be different, this time.

It's a lot easier to be mad at Peter than to miss her father.
Gwen and her grief, at the end of the movie and after. Oh Gwen. Oh my heart. Absolutely heartwrenching. Have tissues handy.

Working for SHIELD is even more exciting than Darcy expected. This is adorable and kind of hilarious.

I Take My Children Everywhere (But They Always Find Their Way Home) by [archiveofourown.org profile] kellifer_fic
Steve and Tony get de-aged. Coulson, Clint, and Darcy take turns babysitting. I enjoyed wee!Steve and wee!Tony being adorable (though I found Pepper's complete absence rather glaring).

Louder Than Bells by [archiveofourown.org profile] carleton97 and [archiveofourown.org profile] Sister_Wolf
Darcy makes an offhand remark to Tony that snowballs. This is adorable and hilarious.

"Barton." Even half-asleep and muffled in a pillow, there was a note of command to her voice that made him stop dead in his tracks, halfway across the cabin. "Stop pacing, or I'm going to break whatever bones are left intact in your body."

"There are six and a half paces from one wall to the other," he told her. "The half keeps throwing me off."

She made a low frustrated noise and sat up, the thin blanket sliding down from her shoulders. "Take smaller paces, then," she told him. "Or better yet, get over here and get some sleep, like you were ordered to."

He shook his head. "We're getting debriefed when we get back," he said. "I can't forget anything."
really lovely story of Clint and Natasha's partnership.

Iron Man/Spider-man

(Secret) Meeting Like This by [archiveofourown.org profile] BlackEyedGirl
Tony doesn't find most people that interesting. Spider-Man is definitely interesting. It's not even the secret identity thing – SHIELD is full of people who may or may not be using their legal name during interactions with Tony. Spider-Man's not even the only person Tony's ever worked with without seeing their face (he really hopes Fury knows who was on the other end of those Helicarrier conference calls).

The secret identity doesn't hurt the intrigue, but its main effect is just to make Tony so curious that he pisses the kid off. 'Kid' is still a hazy concept, but he's definitely got the age narrowed down to 'younger than me, old enough to drink' which is fair enough.

"There must be people who know," Tony says.

"Why must there?"
Adorable bantery Tony/Peter that remembers Peter is a science geek.

The Bourne Trilogy

these fragments I have shored against my ruins by vegarin
Jason and Nicky, before and after. Beautifully evocative and bittersweet, yet shot through with hope. "You stopped running," he says, and it barely manages not to sound like an accusation. She has a job, neighbors who would remember her face, friends who enjoy her company. She's left footsteps and fingerprints in her life.

She looks away for a long moment before meeting his eyes again. "I think, at one point, you need to find ways to live with your choices. Even if -- even if it's a luxury that you can't afford, maybe not even deserve."

Band of Brothers/The Book Thief

The Easy Men by [livejournal.com profile] buffyaddict13
Amazing crossover between "Band of Brothers" and "The Book Thief" - I'm not familiar with the former except in passing, but I don't think you need to be. Takes the narrator from the latter and uses the book's style perfectly to tell a heartbreaking story that rings with truth.

Battlestar Galactica/The Handmaid's Tale

Blessed Be The Fruit by [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777
A BSG AU set in the world of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Fantastic - it takes the show's gender and reproductive issues and follows them to their logical - and horrifying - conclusions. Brilliantly done. I love that it's Caprica, and that Sonja and Boomer and Athena are involved, and that Ellen and Saul are still together and still as impotent to effect change as they ever were.

My Brother's Keeper by [livejournal.com profile] ducks_in_a_row
Amusing, in-character House/SPN crossover. Sam's in a zombie-induced coma, Dean knows why and how to fix it, but House and Cuddy won't let him remove Sam from the hospital. Hijinks and banter ensue.

Iron Man/Spider-Man

Tabloid by [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke
"What sort of facilities do you have at home, Spider-Man?" Dr. Richards asked. "Do you make your own costumes?" / "Uh, yeah. I have a sewing machine from--" from his aunt's garage, an old Singer with three stitches. "Yeah, I make my own gear." He used plain old swimsuit material from the store, fused on a dumpster-dived ironing board with rubber webbing for strength. Took him about six hours per piece, which was why it was such a BITCH when some jerk shredded one. / "That isn't mechanized?" Dr. Richards looked surprised. "But your security system--what kind of server do you have?" / "Uh..." Peter looked at the robots, stamping out tracer after tracer. Utterly adorable sequel to "Paparazzo" (previously recced). *hearts Peter Parker*

Harry Potter/Narnia

A Year in Their Courts by [livejournal.com profile] animus_wyrmis

The Signs That We Missed by [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose
This amazing story looks forward and back with all the characters, using the events of "Reprise" as a starting point, and ending point, a center.

A quote:
If he could say it started with Whistler; if he could name China, Romania, Galway, or the death bed of a Jamestown whore as the proverbial scene of the crime, then he might know the one damning action that somehow tipped the scales. There wasn't one really, because destiny doesn't do anything so prosaic as begin. It just kind of quietly exists and if you're fucked, then you're fucked all along.

Batman Begins

Kesa Kudoku (The Merit of the Robe) by Sarah T.
Bruce/Ducard story that just - I can hear Liam Neeson in my head when I read this; it could totally be a missing scene from the movie. So short and so good.

Spider-man 2

Just a Face on a Train by katheryne
Peter Parker runs into one of the people he saved on the train, the day he was unmasked, and she wants to help. This story made me cry like a baby. It’s sweet and simple and oh, Peter, with hardly anyone to turn to for help, finding friends in odd places. Just lovely. Please ignore the ff.net address, the OFC, and the occasional grammar error and read it, especially if you are a fan of Peter Parker.

Batman Begins

Wonderful Lucius/Alfred story, charting the course of the relationship over the years quietly and subtly with wry humor and a deft hand. Lovely.

Beautiful and evocative Bruce/Ducard fic.

Fathers and Daughters by David Hines
This is comics Batverse, which I know nearly nothing about aside from what everyone knows, but my love for Commissioner Gordon is pure in the wake of Batman Begins, and this is a beautifully written, quiet story about Jim and Barbara Gordon, and the new Batgirl, about fathers and daughters, the kind of thing explored all too infrequently in fanfic. Wistful and spare and lovely.

Untitled Alfred/Lucius ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] slashfan4eva

Spider-Man (movieverse)

Stories are spoilery for both movies, so read at your own risk.

At the Scene of the Crime by Sarah T.
Peter’s taking care of Harry, and then Harry takes care of Peter. The best kind of PWP, in which character is illuminated during the hot sex. And god, it hits all my buttons: Harry was moving his hands over Peter's hips and thighs like he wanted *him*, Peter the dork, Peter the disappointment, Peter who didn't even return his friend's phone calls. That was...he had to admit it, that worked for him.

It’s Not Easy Being Green by zahra
Short, sharp, painful and hot - this story is all about the blurred edges between being Peter and being Spider-Man, and the ways Harry keeps Peter focused on him.

Riptide by [livejournal.com profile] veuki
Harry and Peter in and around and through both movies. Thick with love, grief, desperation and regret, all the things the movies don’t show, between two boys who love each other and yet can’t give each other what they need.

The Story of Your Life, Starring Gwyneth Paltrow by not jenny
Mary Jane Watson in all her flaws and foibles. Lovely. (spoilery for Spider-Man 2)

Ultimate Spider-Man/Ultimate Wolverine
Spray Evenly, Until Slightly Damp by Azurine
Peter Parker and Wolverine sounds like an insane idea, especially in Ultimate-verse, but Az brings both the hot and the funny here, and how can you not love a fic with lines like this: Hey, what's a sponge bath between buddies, right? Logan is hurt bad, Peter’s hiding him, and the smell is going to get Peter in trouble. So what’s a superhero to do? Give the man a bath, right?
