Good Omens

Be As You've Always Been by [archiveofourown.org profile] gyzym
In some ways, his entire relationship with Crowley is just a conversation that's been going on for six thousand years, one that's ranged over every topic and idea except those that they, by agreement, Didn't Talk About. And that's beautiful and it's brilliant, of course, but it's difficult, too; it means there are pockets of ground where past disagreements and slights and agonies are buried, ready to explode the minute either one of them steps wrong. Aziraphale thinks the average human, wonderful creatures though they are, would probably melt down into eternal hysterics after the first thousand years or so. Honestly, some days he feels like he might. Long, lovely read in which Aziraphale and Crowley do some thinking and talking after averting the apocalypse.

Sandman

Misery Loves Company by [archiveofourown.org profile] icarus_chained
Over the course of his life, Hob has been more than well acquainted with despair. Comes with the territory, a bit. Not even immortals have infinite strength. It took some centuries, though, before he became acquainted with Despair. In the flesh, as it were. Is it strange to find a degree of comfort in the personification of abject misery? Probably. But there've been times when she's been there, and that made all the difference. Oh, lovely!

"Jensen, we need to... talk," said Clay, like the words pained him.

"We’ve noticed that you seem..." Aisha began.

"Please stop," said Jensen. "Please, please, stop."

"Your head is up your ass," she finished, matter-of-fact. The kind of matter-of-fact that meant Aisha was about wade into topics that made her deeply uncomfortable, like feelings. Shit. "Tell us why."

"Would you believe me if I said I didn’t know?"

"Sadly," said Clay, "yes."
*dies and is dead* This is hilarious and perfect. The Losers v. dinosaurs, and Jensen's complete obliviousness to his own and Cougar's feelings. I laughed out loud many, many times and the story isn't even that long.

Hanna

When You Get Older by [archiveofourown.org profile] evewithanapple
Yesterday afternoon, before Sophie had arrived, she'd wanted to abandon the mission she'd been given entirely- vanish somewhere into the heart of the campus, take up classes, be given a certificate stamped with her name and accomplishments and walk along in the footsteps of those students walking across the courtyard in front of her eyes. Perhaps her mother would have wanted that for her. Not for the first time, she wondered if her mother had gone to school, what she might have studied, if she had dreamed of seeing her own daughter graduate. She couldn't know. She wished she could. For years and years she'd done what was expected of her; what was she supposed to do when nobody expected anything? Hanna goes looking for answers after the movie and meets up with Sophie again. Lovely.

Wonderful Trek/West Wing crossover - CJ and Donna and the election of the President of the United Federation of planets. It's a ceremony for the media. It's always a ceremony for the media. CJ's actually gone outside for the occasion, though, which is something new after what feels like weeks and weeks living inside her office and sleeping under her desk. They're standing backstage, waiting for the fireworks to start. Above, there is the panoply of stellar light, asterisms of geostationary spacedocks with the familiar stars as backdrop.

Donna squeezes CJ's hand: doing okay?

Highly enjoyable crossover with Supernatual & Zombieland. "No need for names," Tallahassee said coarsely, coming around from the trunk and pumping his rifle. "Only wherever it is you're headed." The two guys exchanged looks. Like, weird looks. Like, we're-pompous-asses-but-for-a-good-reason looks. "Well then." He gestured to himself. "You can call me Lawrence. And him?" American Gods

do zla boga by kangeiko
So why, astute readers may wonder, do some older gods survive? Why are they, too, not forgotten in the wind, lost to newer gods with deeper thorns and larger armies at their back? / If I tell you it is good deeds and miracles, you will know that I am lying. Sharp, creepy story well in keeping with the tone of the book.

Tipping The Balance by Laliandra
“So, it was a dark and stormy night in Prague,” Eli intoned. Silas frowned and said, “Yes, it was, actually.” “Wow, you two really did grow up together,” Jojo said with a snicker and Bod and Silas exchanged the puzzled glance of the pop culturally illiterate. While I don't really buy the pairing, this is a lovely story of Bod growing up outside the graveyard, and Silas coming in and out of his life, still. Really captures the feel of the book, and the ending is perfect.

*

Sandman

Schizophasia by Imricita (whatimages)
She tried to make friends with a fairy tale once. It was about a princess who was a cat with emerald eyes; but under the force of Delirium's two coloured gaze, it started to fracture and warp, and soon it wasn't about anything at all. The emerald-eyed cat chases Delirium's fish throughout her realm, and no one remembers her name. Only Delirium remembers it; Delirium remembers everything. Destiny has read much, but Delirium was once Delight, and she forgets nothing. Absolutely dazzling story of the drive to create and the toll it extracts. Paul wants to write a poem. Delirium wants a friend. A bargain is struck. Brilliant.

*

Lucifer

And End With A Song - by Sullen Siren
"But things will be different." / "They always are. Or they appear to be. The change itself is a constant enough to make it invalidating. Change is constant, and thus nothing really changes," Lucifer said. / Her lips pursed. "You're kind of full of crap, sometimes." / "We can't all be omniscient." / "No, but you're closer than most." Sandman

Pieces of Time by [livejournal.com profile] scarletts_awry
The scene in Brief Lives where Delirium and Dream visit Destiny, from Del's POV. I like this story a lot - it captures the wayward nature of Delirium's train of thought, how she digresses and digresses back around to the point maybe even she doesn't realize she's making until she's made it. Lovely. Grief is a floodwater, and it cuts deep enough that it belongs to Delirium. Grief is madness. Grief is knowledge.

*

Lucifer

Even the Angels by Moontyger
Michael and Lucifer have a conversation. Perfect little snapshot, with one hell of an ending. Short but packs a punch.

Crux by numinicious
While asking for his alliance against the Lilim, Lucifer schools Rudd on a few home truths. I really like Lucifer here. "Are you going to be the pot or the kettle, Morningstar? You, the first among all angels, the cream of the crop, one might say — and you fell. To this pit, to the bottom." Rudd smiles, cruelly. "The metaphor works both ways, Lucifer." "And look at me now." Lucifer matches his smile, kindly. "A Creator. Sometimes you have to fall before you can rise, Rudd."

Gloria In Exelsis Deo (maybe the highest, but not-Heaven) by kassie
I *love* this. I love how it captures Elaine perfectly. I love Duma and his worrying and gardening and his care-taking and his bliss at PIE (I love that there is PIE in a DINER with forward waitresses offering advice). I love grumpy Gabriel and his eons-old feelings of sibling rivalry, and Lucifer's presence at the end, how Elaine still needs his validation, still loves him and how he, in his way, loves her. *heart*
