Okay, see, the thing is, I'm slack.

I've got a job, I just moved, I took over an archive, am dabbling in fandoms hither and yon, and I just...stopped updating the Unfit for Society Recs.

I should be spanked, I know. ::calls out, "Logan, oh, Logan..."::

Anyhow, since I am a lazy cow, and Bethy [livejournal.com profile] hwmitzy is a goddess and gave me an LJ code, I decided that doing recs would be so much easier if I just did it in LiveJournal.

Hence, [livejournal.com profile] unfitforsociety.

So yeah, recs. Multi-fandom, multi-rating, slash, het and gen (and possibly the occasional goat, depending *g*). It's all me (Victoria P. [[livejournal.com profile] musesfool]) for now, but I'm trying to convince the rest of the crew to use this for recs updates.

Eventually I will move all these onto the the Unfit for Society Recs Pages, but it may be a while.

I'm hoping to be able to do this a little more regularly now, since I don't need FTP access or anything...

Whee!

First set of recs. It's been a while...

All links open in a new window.

Smallville

The Autumn People by Jenn
Chloe and Lex and everything that ever went wrong with them and Clark on a rainy night in Metropolis. Sharp, bitter, and extremely, sadly possible.

Brink Pink by Kathe
Post-Tempest Chloe vignette, in which Chloe deals with her feelings about Clark leaving her at the dance. Dead-on Chloe voice.

Drowning in Syrup by Pearl-O
Chloe learns the truth about coming home. Just pitch-perfect Chloe characterization.

A Good Year for the Corn by Beth
Jonathan protects his family in this chilling little ficlet. Why does Kent corn grow so well?

Immanence by Sarah T.
A beautiful, acid-etched portrait of regret, as Clark and Lex meet one more time, in Marrakech.

Immortality by Grail
Feel your heart break as Clark makes the only decision he thinks he can live with, and one that will haunt him forever. Simply stunning, an emotional wrecking ball.

Intellectual Discourse by Pearl-o
Clark and Lex discuss philosophy. Does personality really determine destiny?

Sky Blue by Tara LJC
Another "Chloe contemplates Kansas" story, and in this one, she comes to peace with both her hometown and her old high school sweetheart. Delicate and lovely.

Syzygy by Jenn
Clark and Lex discussing philosophy in the desert. Wonderful look at the future in a way that makes sense of both Smallville and Superman canon and cuts like a razor - no
pain until you think about it, and then it hurts so very much.

Vector by Hope
Sharp, bitter, achingly perfect Chloe/Lex story that shows exactly what these two could do to each other.

Watch It Fade by Pearl-o
Exquisite, wistful Clark/Lex vignette that captures the almost sacred nature of their friendship (confessor and confessee) as well as Lex's yearning for his lost mother.

Go. Read. Enjoy. Send Feedback!

And Happy Friday!

Buffy

All Your Tomorrows by Jenny-O
Giles. Anya. The only way it could ever work, and how amazingly inevitable Jenny-O makes it seem.

Come the Day by Kyra Cullinan.
Anya tries to readjust to being a demon, and it's not working out. Poignant and pitch perfect. Spoilers for Beneath You.

Warmth by Te
Willow and Xander in the aftermath of "Two to Go/Grave." It's Xander and Willow as we know and love them best. Just a little... sadder and more mature.

Harry Potter

The Language That God Speaks by Liz Barr
A wonderful little Harry Potter/Sandman crossover that runs with Terry Pratchett's idea that "all libraries are one library," with great characterization of all parties, and a Hermione I really, really like.

Lust Over Pendle by AJ Hall

What do you mean you haven't read it?

Go. Now.

Admittedly, I'm not sure I quite buy this Draco, but Neville is fabulous, Hermione kicks ass, and Narcissa and Emily are the best duo (in a non-slashy way) since Batman met Robin. It's long, it's involved, it's hilarious and well-written.

The Spirit of Brotherhood by torch
Snape, Lupin and Black must put aside their differences and work together. And no, they're not building a tower of office furniture. Torch brings them together and keeps them in character as Snape and Black try not to kill each other during the working of a spell, and each man contemplates his own choices, and the others'.

Alias
In Step by Nestra
Hot like a hot thing - second person UST between Syd and Vaughn that just burns. ::fans self:: did it get hot in here or what?

Lord of the Rings
Orturmoriwen by Twinkledru
Ah. In Middle-Earth, long before even the first Alliance of Men and Elves against Sauron, there was one who fought the darkness. And this is her story.

(this inspired my own The Naming of Names, which puts a slayer down in Earthsea. But I'm not reccing myself. I'm just saying, Orturmoriwen is a good, inspirational story. You might find yourself thinking of Slayers in Unusual Places after reading it.)

Minority Report
Now by Thuvia Ptarth
Written for the defining moments challenge, Thuvia takes us inside the mind of Agatha Lively from Minority Report and does it in a way you'll never forget.

X-Men
Dancing Cranes by Pollyanna
Beautiful, understated, graceful slice of life vignette that captures Logan and Xavier in a quiet moment of remembrance. Plus, the scarf.

The Glass King by Unanon
Put the master of metal in a plastic cage and watch how he reacts. Incisive, shivery goodness that gets right inside Magneto's head.
