Smallville
Expectations by Beth
The absolute hands-down, knee-slappingest, side-splittingest, pants-peeingest MPREG story ever. See Superman in a muumuu! Watch Lionel Luthor meet his match! Be Amazed when Toby finally freaks out. Plus, Sparky the Kent Goat makes a special, uncredited appearance.

This is the only way MPREG should ever be written, and really, after this, nothing more ever need be done on the subject.

The Lost Bizarre Ass Rituals of a Kryptonian Boy by Beth
This fic should be in the comedy Hall of Fame simply for the title. And the whisk. And Martha’s response to the whisk. Read and laugh, and send Bethy some love.

Gilmore Girls
Frozen by Megan Reilly
New Year’s Eve. Stars Hollow. Luke makes an effort, but things don’t really change. Subtle, bittersweet and in character.

Mimi by Megan Reilly
Lorelai is jealous of herself. It’s complicated (though it shouldn’t be, but this is Lorelai we’re talking about) and involves her new nom de diner and a brief, poignant kiss. Lovely Lorelai POV.

Harry Potter
Alone by Bounce
Sirius is more broken than Remus realizes. Short, bitter and real.

Deus ex Machina by Silvia
Draco is going to defeat Harry through epic poetry. Yeah, you heard him. Epic poetry. This is funny, bittersweet, and in character. She's making me like Draco, and that's just not right, but it is a sign of good writing.

To Lucasta, Going to the Wars by Twinkledru J.
Sirius and Remus still have things to reconcile. I love me some Sirius/Remus, and Jules handles them remarkably well.

Black Is the Color by A. Vulgarweed.
You can blame this on [livejournal.com profile] bonibaru. LotR/HP cross that is not for the faint of stomach, but is hilariously creepy. Snape meets the Witch-King of Angmar and things get a little out of hand.

Sports Night
I don't read a lot of SN fic. I'm heavily invested in Dana/Casey (still. Despite ABS's idiotic attempts to torpedo it), and so much of the fic is slash, and I just see Dan and Casey as brothers (except maybe in "Thespis"). But there are exceptions. Here are two.

Flirtational Theory by Shrift.
Dan explains a few things to Casey. Casey tries to process. This fic is so spot-on, in character, and just perfect in every way. Love. It.

Go Thy Way, Daniel by Marguerite
Dan disintegrates. Casey watches, and tries to do something about it. Subtle, beautiful, painful and true. Marguerite broke my Danny, but she did it so exquisitely that I can't fault her for it. If you don't cry, you must have a heart of stone.

This past month or so, I didn't read as much as I'd have liked, and didn't like everything I read, but here are some gems worth digging up and reading and rereading.

Lord of the Rings
The Care and Feeding of Hobbits by Baylor.
Boromir learns about Hobbits in these beautiful slice-of-life stories that capture the characters at their most charming and vulnerable. Wonderful Boromir characterization, and I defy you not to sniffle at least a little in various places.

Laura JV’s site, which houses her wonderful Legolas/Gimli fic. Heart’s Ease, Lied: Lay My Heart Naked and Love Knot are all beautiful evocations of this too-long-ignored (and practically canon!) pairing. Laura JV hits both tone and characterization on the head, and makes Legolas and Gimli come alive in their love and doubt.

Read. Love. Send feedback.
