She is radiant now, arms flung wide, face tipped back to drink in the sun, spinning in the sand and sea as her hair flies around her face. Alison is so foreign, so new, and yet she's family in a way he can't shake. Maybe that's why they've become such fast friends. Maybe not. Felix will never know. Felix and Alison's weird friendship is one of my favorite things about Orphan Black, and this story captures exactly why. "Luke. Are you seeing this??"

"I'm seeing it."

"Uh, no. If you were seeing this, then you would see that this--" She pauses, does some Vanna White arms-- "obviously has Lorelai Gilmore written all over it."

'This' is a shower curtain covered in cartoon hippos with really big eyes. The eyes of some hippos who have been dabbling with some illegal substances. (As hippos do.) Just between you and her, Lorelai's not really that into it. She is not the same woman who once fell in love at first sight with what her mother christened a "semi-pornographic, leering monkey lamp." She's got higher standards for her semi-pornographic interior design decisions these days. But. The hippos have 'Luke will freak in the face of us!' written aaaall over 'em. She has to at least tease him with the horrifying possibility of a life where this dwells in their bathroom.

"You know what," Luke says then, with this appraising little nod, "yeah. I can see it."
Ahahahahaha! This is an adorable and pitch-perfect post-series Luke/Lorelai story.

Lilo & Stitch

At seven, Lilo wants to grow up to be an intergalactic space hero.

Stitch shows her how to build plasma guns (Nani puts them on a high shelf), how to rig up a can opener and a radio into a machine that will open a portal to an alternate universe (Nani says she can't do it in the house) and how to first swallow and then regurgitate useful objects, like handcuff keys or quarters (Nani, though disgusted, can't help but be impressed). She and Stitch roam the forests and swim the ocean and are the best of friends, and though Lilo doesn't talk much to other kids, she has Stitch and she has Nani and they are all she needs. She dreams at night of a future among space aliens, green and wriggly, tall and blue, grave and comic and of infinite variety, and when she wakes she can still see their cities behind her eyes, gleaming and verdant.
This made me all teary and achy in exactly the same way as the movie. *sniffle* Oh, my heart.

Book by [archiveofourown.org profile] jendavis
Abed redoubles his attention on the screen, trying to figure out what it is that's causing the tears- it's Shepherd Book, dying on Haven, every hint of his real identity being cut off too soon. It's a brilliant scene, highlighting all the questions surrounding Book's secret past while proving, without doubt, that those questions would never be answered. It's as frustrating as the series itself, thirteen perfect episodes and a movie, and a hundred story lines that never got to be. Awesome first kiss for Troy and Abed, from Abed's POV, with some lovely Firefly references.

Eternity in a Kiss by [personal profile] snacky
Bert's spent countless untold years with Mary, traveling with her from place to place, from family to family. Sometimes he arrives in the place before her, and waits. Sometimes he catches up to her, after she's been there for a while. He's immortal, of course, thanks to her, but he's not immortal like her. There are places Mary Poppins can live and thrive that Bert can't, and during the years when she's living with families under water, or deep in the heart of a flaming volcano, Bert can only wait for the winds to change, the tides to turn, the volcano to sleep, and hope the next child lives in a place where he can join them.

He's not magic like Mary Poppins, but over the years, Bert's developed his own magic, making paintings and drawings that can come to life, and can be used as portals to other worlds.

Her father had taught her to survive in the wild, to speak many languages, to defend herself, to kill. He had not taught her what to do once Marissa was dead. Perhaps he had not known himself. Then again, perhaps he had thought he would survive and they could learn together what came next.

Her future stretches out before her, her path uncertain and full of decisions that only she can make for herself. Hanna takes in another breath, lets it out slowly. It is strange, she finds, having choices, being able to decide between more than two options (flip the switch or don’t, kill Marissa or die).

The Difference Between Retrieval and Recovery by [livejournal.com profile] to_say_nothing
She closed her eyes. "I wish the future would hold steady for a while," she said plaintively. She felt young. She was sure - nearly sure - that she was older than she'd ever been, but she felt young and lost. "I wish I could get my balance." Nick organizes a rescue after Cassie is taken by Division. Good action, and a really lovely and true reunion for them.

Facet by [archiveofourown.org profile] unrequitedangst
This is a day: over breakfast, they loudly debate what to do that day, even as her pen moves steadily through the unformed memories of it corporeal on paper, even as he complains that her cars look like boxes, her people like blobs--what the hell is that even supposed to be?--even as she tells him to fuck off, her art is pretty fucking amazing, all right, it is a rough sketch. They go out into the street and talk to people and maybe get shot at, then they go somewhere else for lunch, bickering over her possibly shitty-or-not-shitty taste in clothing, and then they get shot at some more. When it's over, they still aren't dead yet. Really love series of snippets about their life on the run.

Future Imperfect by [livejournal.com profile] to_say_nothing
Cassie always drew what she saw, even when she didn't like it. She'd drawn herself and Nick dying, dying, dying, tortured and imprisoned, drugged and separated. She drew herself now, crying up at the ceiling. The green marker pressed heavily into the page as she scribbled the crimped lines of her hair, but she held the silver lightly on the outline of her tears. Lovely bit of Nick/Cassie.

So she's on the run with a totally hot older guy with stubble and shoulders and blue eyes and she's possibly going to die very very soon (long story, not that entertaining) the point is, given that life is short and Nick is hot, doesn't it make sense that once, just once, they should hook up? "You were dead, and I thought," he starts before kissing her again.

There's blood on his lips, her blood and Cassie doesn't know what to say, what to do so she reaches out for him, closes the unused space between them to press his body against hers. The solidness of his weight above her makes her feel safe and protected in a way she didn't realize she needed. "Nick," she breathes against him, mouth brushing against his to stop the frantic sounds he's making. "I'm ok," she says, eyes fluttering, limbs heavy and mouth slack. "I'm ok."
Sharp, desperate first kiss for Nick and Cassie.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea by [livejournal.com profile] dancinbutterfly
"It's okay. I've got you. You're gonna be okay."

It sounds too much like what she heard in her vision and she knows she has to leave. So she pulls back and gives him a watery smile. His returning smile is broad and lights up his whole face and she wishes she were a better artist. She wants to remember this better than she can capture it.

"We're going to be okay this time," he promises and she nods. Yes they are.
Cassie leaves to keep them both safe, and Nick doesn't take it well. Achy and lovely.

Sweet Deal by [archiveofourown.org profile] anenko
They're facing each other, close enough to kiss, and there's a bed right beneath them. Cassie doesn't need to be a Watcher to see where this is going. Destination: hot sex, straight ahead. She's already lightheaded just thinking about. Every single day it took to get to this moment is suddenly so very worth it. For once, Cassie doesn't see it coming. Sweet and funny and hot.

you're all that i can see by [livejournal.com profile] liminalliz
When she's not planning the full destruction of all Division agencies across the globe, rescuing her mother, and saving the world from the renegades, she's searching for the original Wiper who took Nick's memories, or at least hunting down a Wiper worth his or her salt that could bring back some glimpses so she could win his trust; Kira's Push runs deep in his scarred brain. Cassie would feel doomed if it wasn't for her latest vision of her and Nick hustling a dice game, a fond familiar smile on his face.

She visits him when she can, but it never ends well. The technicolor swell flies outward from his fists, and she has to drug him again, rubbing her bruised face and calling for a Stitch.
Cassie rescues Nick from Division, and then tries to find a way to get his memories of her back. Sharp and good.

love, love to ease my mind by [livejournal.com profile] ohladybegood
The apartment they get in Queens is tiny, dingy, and there's a hole in the wall between Nick's bedroom and hers so she can hear him snoring every night.

He's given up on the whole 'school' thing, swearing off her tutors once-and-for-all, but he makes her sign up for online classes. Sometimes she hates that he treats her this way, like she's some normal fourteen-year-old (they celebrate her birthday in the normal way of companions with a 10 year age gap and no relation to speak of: she pays for dinner and he treats himself to a beer and awkwardly shoves a card into her hand) who needs to know things like how to spell agoraphobia.

Nick doesn't get a job; instead he goes out and cheats at dice every night, and brings in way more cash for considerably less trouble. Cassie, obviously, cannot go with him, so she mostly kicks around the apartment. Sometimes she goes to the New York Library and spends the day reading, or sitting in the huge leather chairs and soaking in the quiet.

Sometimes it feels like an actual life, a life where she is living with Nick in their weird, indefinable relationship and not running from something. Not hiding.
Really excellent post-movie story about Cassie and Nick traveling together while Cassie grows up and Nick discovers that he wants her as much as he loves her. (the second part is the next post after part 1; I don't know why there's no internal link between them.)

Magnetic North by [archiveofourown.org profile] shallowness
Nick told Kira a lot of things. At first, his words were his way of trying to get her back on an even keel after Carver. He thought they could find happiness, if not normalcy. So he told her about himself, about what she'd missed. She told him in hesitant bursts about what she thought she remembered. Talking about things was how he thought they'd work through everything and build their future.

Now, he's the one who knows he has gaps because Kira Pushed what he shared with her out of his mind. He's had long hours of raging that she would do that after what she'd been through. Long hours when he'd wait for daylight and for the nightmare she'd made of his life to continue. When she was awake, he snapped about things that didn't really matter, but never lost all his control, afraid that if he did, she'd Push him some more.
Nick tries to get back what he's lost, even though he doesn't know exactly what it is. Cassie waits for his return.

Methods of Persuasion by [archiveofourown.org profile] issuegirls
"Cassie," he says, and she knows that he's still uncertain. If it had simply been a matter of age, he'd have been waiting up with her for the hour to chime; for Nick, it's more that she wants what he wants, that she's finally self-possessed enough to be ready for everything that being in a relationship would entail. Cassie turns eighteen and finally gets what she wants from Nick.
