Faithless by Ari
Folk believe. It's in the constitution of folk, between heart and head, some part that's foolish enough to need certainty. Lovely meditation on faith - and the lack thereof - by Mal.

Five Times Alec Didn't Get Busy by [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea
Alec's history is written in the curve of Max's bicep, the scent of her hair, the straight lines of her barcode. He nuzzles it and tastes home. Lovely. I especially like the Max and Joshua sections.

Once upon a time, a boy set out on a quest to save his brother. Fantastic crossover with Sandman - gets the tone of it just right, and Death especially is spot-on. (implied Wincest)

Dark Angel/Supernatural

Today's Tom Sawyer by [livejournal.com profile] ladyjanelly
AU post-Devil's Trap; John and Dean are gone, in 2009, Sam finds Ben (who looks just like Dean except for that weird barcode tattoo on his neck), and takes him in. Interesting, sad. The only thing a wolf-cub can grow up to be is a wolf.

and the sequels: Ridin' the Storm Out by [livejournal.com profile] ladyjanelly
The pulse hits while Sam and Ben are on a hunt.

The Space He Invades by [livejournal.com profile] ladyjanelly
But this—this feels right, to be there for Ben like he was there for Dean. The cost doesn’t matter a bit. Sam, Ben and Bobby, the first post-pulse winter and werewolves. Lovely.

"You're going to make me face the Yale Lesbian Mafia alone?" Paris says. / "I'm sorry. I tried. But a vegan bake sale? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of baked goods?" Adorably awkward Paris/Rory, with a note-perfect Rory-voice.

The World's a Small Child in the Dark by [livejournal.com profile] stele3
Dean's year, and he's got a list. Sam finds it, and is determined to help Dean check off all the items. There are some characterization things in here that didn't quite work for me, but overall I really enjoyed the story, and the cameo appearance by one of the Endless. (Wincest)

*

Supernatural/Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Overheated by [livejournal.com profile] teand
Dean meets Cordelia when her car overheats. Flirty banter ensues, and though no real secrets are revealed, both recognize something in the other that's familiar. Wonderfully done.

Supernatural/The Crow
Through A Glass Darkly by [livejournal.com profile] azewewish
"Even the condemned lie to those they love." "Yeah, well, the point is, it's not okay." Sam and Dean in the wake of John's death, working a case. Sharp, difficult, heartbreaking crossover with "The Crow." Some minor grammatical nits but nothing to stop you from enjoying the story.

*

Supernatural/Harry Potter
Of A Sort and A Rough Start by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes
In the first, Dean has a fairly epic conversation with the Sorting Hat, and in the second, he spends his first week at Hogwarts trying to escape. The merging of the two worlds is well-thought-out, and the characterizations are spot on.

Dodger knows his dad from way back. Actually, Dean suspects that they've been friends since before the hunting started, but he's never asked. Jack and Elizabeth strike a bargain during DMC. Hot and clever.

Five Ways of Running for Home by [livejournal.com profile] penknife
After they get Jack back, what happens? This story tackles five very possible, very interesting scenarios, and really captures the characters well, especially Elizabeth and her piratical inclinations.

A Means and An End, Speed Bonnie Boat, Creature Comforts, and Sarabande by [livejournal.com profile] artaxastra
Elizabeth and Jack on the Pearl during DMC, and Elizabeth is frustrated in more ways than one. Rings very true to both of them. Jack grins, every gold tooth visible. "Sure ye were, sweeting. Nothin' wrong with checking out the goods. Plenty 'f maids want a look at old Jack."

Round the Points by [livejournal.com profile] penknife
Lovely look at Jack and his compass. It's possible that the problem is that while there is usually only one way of getting to a thing, there are usually a lot of different ways of running away from that thing.

Beautiful Sorta by [livejournal.com profile] circusgirl
Dan/Dana! I know! Beautifully written and spot-on Danny voice.

A quote:
The thing about Dan, the thing that makes him either sexist or chivalrous, a gentleman or a cad, is that he can't stand to see a beautiful woman cry. She doesn't even have to be beautiful, really. Pretty, marginally attractive, homely, hideous, there is something about a woman that is bigger than magic, and there's not a lot Dan believes in, in the way of magic, but women are it. A woman crying means something is horribly wrong, and it hurts Dan's heart.

Edited to add yuletide author names

I’m separating out the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide recs because they don't have authors' names attached at the moment, but once I add them to the Unfit Recs pages, they’ll just be listed with the rest of the fandom recs, and I'll add the authors' names when they're revealed.

also, how are Jack/Will or Xander/Willow rare pairings? But what the hell do I know?

Yuletide recs, by fandom:

Bend It Like Beckham
Friendship and Love by Claire
Bend It Like Beckham should inspire fic, because who *didn't* think Jules was in love with Jess? Well, Jules isn't sure, herself, and there's that whole Joe thing in the way, but she's working through it, and this fic follows her thoughts

Homicide: Life on the Street
All Is Calm and All Is Bright by Seana Renay
Frank visits Tim in prison at Christmas time. Oh, the guilt, the conversation, the perfect Frankentim-ness of it all will break your heart.

Northern Exposure
Oy Magic by Smara
Northern Exposure fic! Whee! Joel and Chris and blowjobs around a fire at the full moon. Guh. And a really good Joel-voice, I thought, which was necessary to make me believe this, because me? I adored Fleischman/O'Connell in all its irritating push-me/pull-you glory. But Chris... mmm...

Pirates of the Caribbean
Out of His Depth by Gloria Mundi
Oddly, I haven't recced any PotC fic, mainly because I haven't read much of it, though I have a list of links. But I really enjoyed this, with Will getting the tour of Tortuga, and discovering that Jack's beautifully tanned skin lingers in his mind's eye. They go for an unexpected moonlight swim, and Will realizes what he wants. Lovely.

Sandman
Alike in Ignorance by Eleanor K.
Desire intrudes on Dream's meeting with Hob Gadling. Amazingly lovely, in character (and Dream/Desire is a hard sell), and hot, with lush prose and an aching sense of need and confusion. *g* Brilliant.

Go. Read. Enjoy. Send feedback.

Also, lemme know if any links don't work, if you liked, you didn't like, you find the recs helpful or not...

Happy Holidays!
