Good Omens

Seaside by[livejournal.com profile] irisbleu and [livejournal.com profile] linnpuzzle
Unutterably beautiful and moving and sweet and funny story of Crowley and Aziraphale taking a little beach holiday and discovering hidden depths in their friendship. And the sequel, Undertow, which is Crowley’s POV of the days after. Warm and tender and breathtakingly lovely.

Thunder Road (Trade In These Wings on Some Wheels) by [livejournal.com profile] vulgarweed
Adam's taken with existentialism so Aziraphale and Crowley can't count on his help to get away from a mob of angry demons. Funny and smart, and a great title. *g* And the sequel, The Circular Argument, in which Adam, Aziraphale and Crowley have a philosophical discussion, and an incredible amount of mind-blowing sex. (Adam is an adult) Funny, hot and sweet.

Lord of the Rings
Siren's Song by [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns
The Ring exerts its will on Boromir, and we get glimpses of what it promises him, what he thinks he will gain. Wonderfully done.

Firefly

Exchanging Words by [livejournal.com profile] kiaforrest
This is a lovely bit of Mal'n'Kaylee (the author calls it gen but my Mal/Kaylee shipping heart sees the subtext) conversation about what Kaylee wants and needs from a man. eta 11/10/05: After I made this rec, this story turned into a multi-part Mal/Kaylee story which I enjoyed, though there are some grammatical nits (above and beyond those expected from the characters) and one stunning example of Inara being OOC. Links to the succeeding parts should be in this first post. [/eta]

Indistinguishable from Magic by [livejournal.com profile] kieyra
If you are one of those folks highly upset by Certain Events in Serenity, this is the story for you. Elegant, in character way for River to undo what was done. Major movie spoilers, obviously.

Lost Generation by [livejournal.com profile] executrix
This fic gives us more backstory for The Message, and is also Firefly as if Hemingway had written it. Fabulous, even if, like me, you ship neither Mal/Tracey nor Mal/Simon. Zoe's voice is wonderful.

Rounded with a sleep by [livejournal.com profile] petronelle
River finds solace in Simon's dreams, until one night, she doesn't. Lyrical and sad and creepy, the way Simon/River should be.

Sometimes by Jacqui
Sweet, funny, plausible Jayne/Kaylee, of all things. Nice slow build to the sex, too. There are some minor grammar issues, but nothing that made me stop reading. And the scene at the kitchen table is hilarious.

they all fall down by [livejournal.com profile] claireweasley
Sharp, sad, funny post-Serenity (movie) fic in which Jayne helps Zoe out and River helps Jayne. The ending is brilliant. (big damn movie spoilers)

What River Knows by LizBee
That ubiquitous 20 things meme, via River Tam. Wonderfully done, and so very River.

Crossovers

Angel/Firefly
Her Vorpal Sword in Hand by [livejournal.com profile] sangerin
Lovely, sense-making, in character Cordelia/River story that picks up Cordy where she left off and drops her in a place where she can be found by the crew of Serenity.

Buffy/Firefly
Rough Heals by [livejournal.com profile] voleuse
Brief yet brilliant BtVS/Firefly crossover. What is a key, after all, and why should it die? Dawn lives and watches the ‘verse change.

Constantine (movie)/Harry Potter
Jacking Gehenna by Mirabella
Hot, brutal, brilliant Constantine/HP crossover. Harry has one last thing to finish off, and only Constantine can help him. (John Constantine/Harry Potter)

Firefly/Sandman
Nights of endless conversations by Fahye
Utterly brilliant Firefly/Sandman crossover. Jayne and Destruction, Mal and Dream, Inara and Desire - it's all so perfect. And then the last little moment of lucidity for Delirium... Absolutely awesome.

Firefly/Stargate: Atlantis
The Big Bang and Everything After by cgb
This is so River it hurts, beautifully. I read this on the strength of my love for River and my confidence in cgb's writing, because all I know about Rodney McKay is that he's a scientist and a bit of an ass, but in this story, he's a man lost in a strange and distant future, and River is so perfectly River, and they have a meeting of the minds over mathematics. Poignant and sharp.

Harry Potter

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by [livejournal.com profile] penknife
Gothic romance Remus/Sirius style. Lovely AU where Sirius lives on the windswept moors and Remus is hired to tutor his young godson Harry.

Find Our Mortal World Enough by Mad Maudlin
Excellent trio fic that tells the story of how Ron and Hermione help Harry in his final confrontation with Voldemort, even though he tries to leave them safely behind.

Frog Prince by LizBee
Snape and Lily and a conversation in sixth year Potions. A quiet moment with the characters, and some lovely interaction.

Home (There's No Place Like) by [livejournal.com profile] colouredlights
Wonderfully achy story about Ron feeling on the outside of HarryandHermione, when it used to be HarryRonHermione, and how it gets to be that way again. Lovely.

Of Morning and Mourning by sionnain
Beautiful, delicate, heartbreaking story about McGonagall the morning of Dumbledore’s funeral.

Office Supplies by Thistlerose
I admit to a weakness for office supplies, so this adorable Ron/Hermione story already had a leg up. But when Ron starts writing notes to Hermione via post-it and sharpie, I just melt. So. Cute.

rise like lions (you sons of cain) by [livejournal.com profile] statelines
Lovely imagery and language here, a meditation on the everyday things and what they mean and how much Sirius loves Remus and wants to take care of him and how oblivious Remus seems to it all. I’m not quite sure what the quote from The Last Battle is doing in the middle of it all, but otherwise, it’s a beautiful story.

Tea Time by [livejournal.com profile] novembersnow
The times of Remus's life, viewed through the ritual of his tea drinking. Lovely.

Thaw by [livejournal.com profile] the_drifter
Lush, detailed, sensuous story of a cold night in the Hogwarts dormitories, and Remus offers Sirius warmth, and a whole lot more. Breath-stealingly lyrical, and full of painterly details that make the scene exceptionally vivid.

What Is Right and What Is Easy by Zahra
Brilliant character study of Cedric Diggory, someone we don’t really get to know at all in canon, and his relationships with his friends, with Cho, with Viktor Krum (especially with Viktor Krum).
