Doom

Stratigraphic Context by [archiveofourown.org profile] Aderam
"What's the plan?" John asked, redirecting the muzzle of the large gun towards the floor and pointedly taking it from Sam's hand.

"Run for the nearest exit," Sam offered ruefully, leading the way into the hallway. She could hear John's huff of disapproval behind her even over the sounds of people running in their direction.

"I don't think I like your plan," he replied.
Post-movie John and Sam for me! I like how they keep rescuing each other, and I hope that they have a peaceful future free of UAC, and this story gives me both of those things. <3

"You're going to sit there until I fall asleep, aren't you? Staring me into submission."

"You wanted to be alone. In Hawkeye logic, that means you don't want to be alone. So I'm going to sit here, yes." She slipped her hand under the edge of the covers and took his, holding it firmly, thumb brushing over the back. "But if you tell anybody I've gone soft and tucked you in, I'll mix castor oil into your still."

"Blasphemer."
Really lovely look at Hawkeye and Margaret's friendship. The ending definitely made me tear up. *sniff*

"You see, in essentials we are not so very different. I believe it comes from—your previous life," she says smugly. "There's a kind of affinity between a good surgeon and a talented painter. You grow accustomed to looking inside of people, to seeing on levels that normal people can't reach. Pulling bodies to pieces."

"Some of us do our best to reassemble them," says Joan
Joan and Moriarty share some similarities but it's the differences that are most important. Really nicely done.

It Came From Outer Space by [archiveofourown.org profile] cher
"The sun is rising over Cicely, and it looks like we're going to have a beautiful day. Today I can't help but appreciate the light breaking over Main Street; the way I can see the Brick emerging from the shadows of dawn.

"I've always been an appreciate-the-sunrise kind of guy, but there's something a little bit special about what might be the last one I see from where I sit. This is 'Chris in the Morning' on KBHR, and I wish you a happy apocalypse."
The apocalypse is coming to Cicely. Joel panics, and everyone else behaves perfectly in character as well. Reads just like an episode.

When the citizens of Attolia complain that the Thief of Eddis is a terrible influence on their queen, they have no way of knowing the truth of their own words. Gen is teaching Irene his tricks, and she's taking joy in learning them. oh, this is lovely. <3

The Cutting Edge

Moves in the Field by [archiveofourown.org profile] icepixie
Walter Dorsey was getting his ass kicked at hockey by a girl.

Sure, the girl was an Olympic figure skating champion, and she had the advantage of being on the same team as his little brother, also an Olympic champion and still an incredible hockey player even with the missing eighteen degrees of peripheral vision. But Walter was still getting his ass kicked by a girl.
Doug takes Kate home to propose. And play pickup hockey. This is adorable.

Get Up, and Go Forth by [archiveofourown.org profile] Frostfire
He dreams of Samuels.

"Why now?" he asks in the dream, which he would hesitate to do in reality, for fear of the answer. "Why does He want me now, when he never did before?"

"Now," says Samuels, in his slow, deliberate way, "you are ready to listen."

He wakes up and thinks, oh yes. Because his whole life has been destroyed, so he has nothing better to do. "Thanks," he says to the stars above. God remains unapologetic.
If the show had had a second season, we could only HOPE it would be as good as this story of Jack finding his way to David in the wilderness, and the two of them learning to trust each other. This really nails Jack's character and also David's humanity. *happy sigh*

Newsflesh

Turn and Face the Strange by [archiveofourown.org profile] Snacky
A lovely post-series slice of life story. Um, I guess to say more would be spoiling the series. But if you've read the trilogy, you should read this story!

"You summoned the kraken?" Irving said.

"Not exactly, sir." Abbie went right on looking him dead in the eye. [...] "Technically, it's a leviathan."

"And technically, the leviathan cannot be summoned," Crane added. "It's a biblical beast said to arise when the time is nigh—"

"We put it back," Abbie interrupted. "Let's focus on that, okay?"
Abbie, Jenny, and Ichabod fight the leviathan. This hilarious and awesome in exactly the same way as the show.

Captain Marvel

Necessary Research by [archiveofourown.org profile] Amy
It wasn't like Captain Marvel had ever just said stuff. Kit learned by paying attention. She knew Captain Marvel's favorite snack foods because she helped her unpack her groceries. She knew Captain Marvel's favorite music because the walls in their building were thin. And she knew Captain Marvel was in love with Spider-woman because she was eight, not stupid. in which Kit is adorably serious about being Captain Marvel's sidekick, and making sure she knows stuff when her memory is gone. Oh Kit. Oh heart.

A-Babies vs. X-Babies

I Always Need to be Sure of You by [archiveofourown.org profile] zarabithia
"I think I might be a little selfish," Steve whispers to Bucky. "I think it's sweet that Clint and Kate share Pizza Dog, and I'm glad that Han can help Eli while his grandpa is sick, but ... "

Steve squeezes Bucky so tight that Bucky thinks his stuffing might burst from his seams. But that's okay; it's the kind of hug that is worth it.

"But I could never share you the way Clint and Kate share Pizza Dog," Steve whispers. "And I could never, ever give you away, no matter how important the mission."
*sobs* Bucky Bear is Steve's favorite. Oh my heart.

Orphan Black

Networking by [archiveofourown.org profile] marycontraire
Alison grins widely at him, and Felix gets this weird jolt of memory, recalling a ten-year-old Sarah winning a netball game in school, before they moved to Canada. Alison is so foreign, so new, and yet she's family in a way he can't shake. Maybe that's why they've become such fast friends. Maybe not. Felix will never know. Felix and Alison's weird friendship is one of my favorite things about Orphan Black, and this story captures exactly why. It's hilarious and then it hits you in the feels when you're not expecting it.

The Birds and the Bees by [archiveofourown.org profile] Lbilover
Lord Legerwood, unknotting with the ease of long practice the tangled skein of his wife's speech, said, "Do I take it you want me to discuss the niceties of love-making with Freddy?"

"Yes," replied his other half baldly.

He could think of a dozen things he would rather do than hold such a conversation with his son, among them walking barefoot over hot coals or strolling down Bond Street without trousers. But he knew that Emma, scatterbrained as she could be, was right. Discreet inquiries over the years since Freddy's majority had yielded no evidence that he ever kept a mistress or even visited one of those establishments that catered to a gentleman's needs. Freddy was undoubtedly as virginal as his bride-to-be, and perhaps a few pointers wouldn't go amiss to help get the newlyweds off to a good start.

"Very well, Emma," he said, resigned to his fate. "I will have a talk with Freddy."
And hilarity ensues. This gets the voices just right. So adorable!

She shoved a handful of bills at Ida. "Chocolate," she hissed again.

Ida exited the car. As she approached the door to the store, Roxy yelled out, "Donuts! They're as close as you can get to eating a human soul!"

Ida ignored the stares of the patrons pumping gas as she entered the convenience store.
Roxy kidnaps Ida for help, and MM and Wendy cover for her back at Middleman HQ. Hilarious and really captures the voices and the vibe of the show.

"A serial killer's den? You keep grenades in your fridge, Mullins. Grenades!"

Shannon sniffed. "Adds character," she said implacably. "Unlike your fridge full of yogurt and orange juice. God. It's like a fucking magazine spread in there, right out of Boring Women's Weekly or some fucking thing. You know what, you need a grenade. You need a little life in there."

"There isn't supposed to be life in the fridge, Mullins," Sarah said. "The whole point of a fridge to prevent life from growing in your--" Shannon was just looking at her with raised eyebrows. Sarah stopped, closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and counted to three.
Delightfully sweet and in-character story about Mullins livening up Ashburn's life. <3

Sunlight in a moonlit world by [archiveofourown.org profile] amaresu
Looking at the bright eyes of the girl next to you though, you know you made the right decision. If you'd stayed, she never would've become this person capable of making you exhaust yourself in the chase. Someone who could be your equal as well as your friend. It's a good thing, even if you miss her terribly. Cass comes back to Gotham to see Steph. This is lovely

Training by [archiveofourown.org profile] thedevilchicken
If you have ever wanted dirtybadwronghot Bruce/Steph with D/s undertones (and boy, have I!), then have I got a story for you! This is superhot and since I felt for Steph and wanted to slap Bruce a good part of the time, it's also in character! It was the same the next night, and the night after that, and every night until Tim came home. He had her kneel on a rooftop dressed as Spoiler, in the cave out by the batmobile, in the kitchen when Alfred was out picking up groceries. She did it every time, without question, not sure whether she should hate herself for it, hate Bruce or both of them. Then Tim was back and she thought maybe it would stop but whenever they met there was a moment when he'd look at her just so and suddenly she understood that he didn't have to say a word anymore, and she didn't have to kneel. He'd trained her. She did as he said. She still remembers how that felt.

Arrow

Felicity arranges a quiet Christmas getaway for Ollie. Diggle helps. Lovely, quiet, melancholy OT3 story.

gimel by [archiveofourown.org profile] Spatz
Lovely story in which Dig and Ollie show up to help Felicity celebrate Hanukkah.

message in a bottle by [archiveofourown.org profile] spyglass
Charming epistolary Oliver/Felicity story.

Really Is A Hero by [archiveofourown.org profile] inmyriadbits
Then he started moving, and Felicity loved that he didn't treat her like she was delicate. He would touch her like she was special, sure, like he was carefully loving the way she felt, but he never held back as if she might break or fall apart. It made her feel strong, and satisfied, and possessive.

And it fucking felt amazing -- Oliver was all control and power and raw need like this, like he couldn't stop or take it easy on her. He expected her to keep up, and she did.
Super hot and also wonderfully in character Oliver/Felicity. <3

Thin Lines by [archiveofourown.org profile] blithers
His tongue feels thick and heavy in his mouth. He closes his eyes. Thoughts slip away from him like the white flash of silvery fish, flitting here and there, sparks of light in the darkness. Oliver dreams in a rotating kaleidoscope of languages: Russian, Chinese, English, the island, the sand-paper grittiness of mud on his fingers and concrete under his knees, the screams of prisoners echoing in a metal box. He thinks of the way he wants to scratch his way out of his own head sometimes, to peel the persona of Oliver Queen off, this patchwork of half-remembered drunken socialite behavior and the hyper-manners of a civilized age that he wears like an itchy sweater. Really good story that reads like an episode, with slightly more insight into Oliver than we often get on the show.
