The Wire

Brains by [archiveofourown.org profile] evilhippo
OMG SO AWESOME! BRAINS! The Zombie Apocalypse comes to Baltimore and Bunk and McNulty get caught up in its wake. Utterly BRILLIANT. (also, I REALLY want the story of Omar Little: Zombie Hunter now.)

Come At The King by [archiveofourown.org profile] VanaTuivana
Really well done back story for Omar. He be who he be, and ain't nobody come at him. That, maybe, that what they call success.

The Shawshank Redemption

Finding Zihuatanejo by Amber Largo
It was a couple of very long legs before the driver announced Zihuatanejo, a little town as beautiful as the name suggested, but I was content to stare out the window and doze. Maybe I was a worn-out old man, but I was one who was tasting freedom. The Pacific was every damned bit as blue as I'd imagined, and a sweet little señorita in a dress of almost the same color pointed down the beach to where the new hotel was. Lovely missing scene, with a spot-on Red voice.

Speaking in Tongues by kittydesade
Really lovely look at Red settling into life in Mexico with Andy. The voice is spot-on - I could totally hear Morgan Freeman narrating as I read.

The Wire

The Why of Things by tokenblkgirl
"I would've asked for grape." The other detective says when they're alone. Dukie shrugs; he's lost interest in the topic. The fat one left a while ago. / "You know why?" / "No." / "Cause nobody likes it. Not really. Means there's always gonna be some left." / This makes sense and Dukie wonders why he didn't think of it first. Going last, waiting until everyone else is finished always makes things easier. Still, nobody likes grape. Bunk and Lester question Dukie. Same as it ever was. Note-perfect, and therefore, heartbreaking.

The Hurt Locker

The Fourteenth Day in Delta by Renne
Truth was that he was too selfish to let anyone else put the suit on. He didn't give a shit about being a hero, but the thought of standing back by the Humvee as the guy in the suit went in there and did his thing was unbearable. But once Sanborn had lost it, once he'd shown he was weak, James had known there wasn't any fucking risk that someone would take the one thing that made him feel alive – death – from him. 'How do you do it?' Sanborn had asked. 'Take the risk?' and James had just shrugged. It was who he was. It either was or it wasn't, that was plain fact. Sharp, smart look at James and Sanborn.

Homicide: Life on the Street

Left Behind by [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce
Russert and Bayliss have a conversation. Perfect post-ep for Sniper part 2

Learning Is Fundamental by Kweevil
Ahahahahahaha! Perfect slice of life circa season 1. Captures everybody's voice and also the dynamics of their partnerships.

Everything else is Homicide by Mweevil
SO AWESOME! A new lead opens up the Felton case, and when Kay smells something hinky, she gets Meldrick and Mikey to help her out. The voices are spot on, the conclusions exceptionally gratifying, and the relationship dynamics perfectly in character. *heart*

Five Ways Omar Remembers Brandon by [livejournal.com profile] rustler
Gorgeous look at Omar, evocative and true to him and Brandon both. Well, well, well. Making eyes at Omar like that, right there on the corner with a whole crew around, and them all just carrying on like they had no idea what was happening. That was bold, and kind of sneaky at the same time. That was good.

Homicide: Life on the Street

Three-Part Disharmony by stubblegiltter
Spot-on Frankentim interaction, and everyone else in the squad room, as well. Frank and Tim negotiate their partnership, as always, though familiarity has made it somewhat easier.

The Hustle by Jae W.
Sharp, honest, in character look at how Kima's turned into McNulty. Really true to the show. Bunk's voice, especially, is spot-on.

Homicide: Life on the Street
Lilacs and Spring Rain by Azrhiaz
"Who said it had to be original?" Pembleton asked. "Things are the way they are. The world goes round and round, and we keep fucking and killing and starting all over again." Excellent casefile, captures the world-weary air of the show well, and nails the Frankentim dynamic.

Us: Four Moments In Time by Rustler
Family? Avon's the closest thing Stringer's ever had to family. The real kind of family, the family you made. Brilliant look at Stringer, and Avon through him, and all the ways they don't quite mesh, the weight of which finally brings them down. Spoilers for the end of season 3.

Come Correct by tiffany rawlins
Short, sharp, perfect look at the inside of young Stringer Bell's head.
