Crossovers

Angel/Sandman
Ouroboros by [livejournal.com profile] selenak
Smart, engrossing crossover in which the Furies, via Lyta Hall, stalk Connor after Not Fade Away.

BtVS/HP
A New Watcher's First Lesson in Recruitment by [livejournal.com profile] r_becca
Dawn's in Salem for recruiting purposes. Things don't go quite as planned, but she meets Ron Weasley, and that's okay too. Eeee! Dawn/Ron.

Firefly/Sandman
Everybody Dies Alone by [livejournal.com profile] honorh
Mal has a conversation with Death in Serenity Valley. Lovely and in character.

Good Omens/HP
The Consequences of Bloody Manchester, or Why Summoning Demons Is a BAD Idea. by [livejournal.com profile] io_aenaria
Okay, this story had me at Mrs. Black's given name being Olympias. She conjures up Crowley for a bit of the old in-out and, well, there are unexpected consequences. Hee!

SportsNight/The Muppets
Five Muppets Isaac's Pretty Sure He Never Hired by Amy
*flails* Awesome, hilarious, brillant SportsNight/Muppets crossover that gets the characters' voices absolutely right. So much love for this story.

Crossovers

Angel/Firefly
Her Vorpal Sword in Hand by [livejournal.com profile] sangerin
Lovely, sense-making, in character Cordelia/River story that picks up Cordy where she left off and drops her in a place where she can be found by the crew of Serenity.

Buffy/Firefly
Rough Heals by [livejournal.com profile] voleuse
Brief yet brilliant BtVS/Firefly crossover. What is a key, after all, and why should it die? Dawn lives and watches the ‘verse change.

Constantine (movie)/Harry Potter
Jacking Gehenna by Mirabella
Hot, brutal, brilliant Constantine/HP crossover. Harry has one last thing to finish off, and only Constantine can help him. (John Constantine/Harry Potter)

Firefly/Sandman
Nights of endless conversations by Fahye
Utterly brilliant Firefly/Sandman crossover. Jayne and Destruction, Mal and Dream, Inara and Desire - it's all so perfect. And then the last little moment of lucidity for Delirium... Absolutely awesome.

Firefly/Stargate: Atlantis
The Big Bang and Everything After by cgb
This is so River it hurts, beautifully. I read this on the strength of my love for River and my confidence in cgb's writing, because all I know about Rodney McKay is that he's a scientist and a bit of an ass, but in this story, he's a man lost in a strange and distant future, and River is so perfectly River, and they have a meeting of the minds over mathematics. Poignant and sharp.

The Brothers Grimm

Lucky He Doesn’t by [livejournal.com profile] seperis
Creepy and hot, this story cuts to the dark heart beating beneath fairytales and turns everything we seem to know about Jake and Will inside out in a completely believable, heartbreaking way.

~*~

Pirates of the Caribbean/Sandman

Death and the Captain by Trinity Day
Captain Jack Sparrow has a conversation with Death while marooned on that island. Highly enjoyable.

Sports Night

Beautiful Sorta by [livejournal.com profile] circusgirl
Dan/Dana! I know! Beautifully written and spot-on Danny voice.

A quote:
The thing about Dan, the thing that makes him either sexist or chivalrous, a gentleman or a cad, is that he can't stand to see a beautiful woman cry. She doesn't even have to be beautiful, really. Pretty, marginally attractive, homely, hideous, there is something about a woman that is bigger than magic, and there's not a lot Dan believes in, in the way of magic, but women are it. A woman crying means something is horribly wrong, and it hurts Dan's heart.

Harry Potter/Sandman

Incarnate by Fay Jay
Snape learns that stoppering Death isn’t exactly as easy as he’d always thought. Lovely, bittersweet and beautifully capturing both Snape and Death, this is a great crossover.

~*~

Lucifer
more people need to write Lucifer fic. more more more!

An Invention, in Parts by [livejournal.com profile] the_grynne
Sharp, smart evocation of Mazikeen.

Thursday’s Child by shrift
Brilliant look at what it must be like to be Elaine Belloc - strange and wonderful and a little bit scary. I also like how the implications of her infatuation with Lucifer are referenced obliquely.

Gilmore Girls

Five Things That Never Happened To Lorelai Victoria Gilmore by [livejournal.com profile] fairy_tale_echo
Five very different, very possible outcomes for Lorelai and Rory.

***

Sandman

Small Fish by FayJay
Beautifully bittersweet, sad and yet hopeful fic in which Dream (v.Daniel) visits Death, and Death thinks about how he isn’t Morpheus, but he’s still Dream. Lovely and poignant.

***

Smallville

The Milk and Cookies War by Punk
Sweet, funny, playful and flirty fic in which Lex tries really hard (for some unknown reason) to resist Clark’s wiles.

These are all from the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide archive (and there are a few more I'll probably eventually get around to reccing, but these are all the stories I recced before the authors were revealed (plus one pinch hit Ocean's 11 fic that's utterly FABulous).

In no particular order whatsoever. I'm cut-tagging, because it's longer even than normal (55 stories in 38 fandoms. I think. Math and I are unmixy things at the best of times, which today is not).

Edited 7/25/06 - I've split this post into several posts and removed the cut-tag. [/eta]

Good Omens/Dogma
Christmas Mixer by [livejournal.com profile] monkeycrackmary
Hee! Office Christmas parties are the same everywhere, and the Metatron attempts to escape from conversation with Aziraphale at this one. Witty, clever, with a spot-on Aziraphale voice, and lines that I can easily imagine Mr. Rickman speaking. (I will see Dogma one day. It's on my list.) Anyhow, read this fic.

Good Omens
The Probability of Ducks by [livejournal.com profile] graycastle
Just ducky. Sorry. Seriously, wonderfully ineffable and in character banter between Crowley and Aziraphale on the possibility of ducks.

Comfort and Joy by [livejournal.com profile] penknife
Crowley and Aziraphale do Christmas shopping. Charming and wonderful and... ineffable. Just excellent.

Eight Nights by [livejournal.com profile] daegaer
This is just absolutely darling. Aziraphale is sneaky and clever, Crowley gets presents, and their affection for each other shines through nicely.

A Precise and Accurate History of Monday, Eleven Years Later by [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek
oh, I'm in love with this story. It makes me all achy in the chestal area because it's so warm and loving and sweet and funny. Just completely charming.

Sandman
Take Your Brother to Work Day by [livejournal.com profile] marksykins
Lovely revisiting of "The Shadow of Her Wings" with Death taking Daniel along for a day's work as he attempts to become comfortable with his new role. Really nails the characters.

Discworld/Sandman
Whose Names Are Death by [livejournal.com profile] bravecows
Brilliant, poignant, clever story in which Death of the Endless visits Death of Discworld.

Further Reflections by [livejournal.com profile] foreverdirt
Susan Sto-Helit and Death of the Endless meet, and find they have things in common. Just delightful. The voices are spot-on.

Harry Potter
Astronomy by [livejournal.com profile] sloanesomething
Lovely and sad and hurtful picture of Sirius and Andromeda, ready to escape the Black family, and Bellatrix, who doesn't want things to change. All three are drawn wonderfully well in lovely, spare prose, and the last line is a kicker.

A Creature Void of Form by Ignipes
During GoF, Remus visits Sirius in the cave on Christmas. Sirius here is slightly less together than he is when we see him in GoF, but it makes sense that he's not keeping up appearance for Remus. I like the way the issues lying between them are handled, though nothing is resolved.

Doubt the Curve of the Earth by [livejournal.com profile] starstillwonder
Lovely post-prank Remus/Sirius fic.

Falling by Saiph
Wonderful story of Lily finally softening toward James. Couple minor grammatical errors don't detract from the fun banter and the breathless feeling of rapprochement turning into something warmer.

Just Waiting by [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli
Remus goes through the veil to bring Sirius back. Fabulous use of POV and just a really intriguing retrieval method.

Lights, Night and Otherwise by [livejournal.com profile] krabapple
The day of Harry's christening, Lily watches and thinks about her husband's friends, and the cracks are already showing in their relationships. Quiet, evocative, deeply felt, this story is lovely and sad.

One Is for You by [livejournal.com profile] phineasjones
Oh, man, this story hits so many of my bulletproof kinks in such a short space I can't even begin... Sirius sits in a diner and asks Remus to meet him, because he has something he wants to say. I love this fic so much. Hopeful, poignant, hot - everything I could want in a Remus/Sirius fic.

Out of the Bag by [livejournal.com profile] iibnf
Snape doesn't like Transfiguration, and McGonagall finds out why. Lovely.

Queer by [livejournal.com profile] switchknife
Sirius is not queer, if by "not queer" you mean, "lusting after Remus." It's all Remus's fault. Hilarious, hot and sweet.

Something In Between by [livejournal.com profile] dorrie6
Wistful story about Neville and his gran. She loves him, and maybe she hasn't always known how to show it, but he gets it now. Sigh.

Undone by [livejournal.com profile] librae
Omigod, so very hot. Either Sirius wants to prove he's more perverse than Remus, or he just wants Remus to feel better about his own perviness, or, most likely, a combination of the two. Either way, Sirius wanks while Remus watches. Mere words cannot convey the hotness here.

Harry Potter/Sandman
Place We'd Never Leave by [livejournal.com profile] northatlantic
Snape meets Despair, per my request. It's not pretty, but oh god, the story itself is *gorgeous*. And the *ending*. I never thought I'd find myself feeling sorry for Despair, but Dre manages it. And Snape... *is shamed to admit a soft cry of "woobie" on his behalf almost forced itself past my trembling lips*

Crossovers

Ultimate Spider-Man/Ultimate Wolverine
Spray Evenly, Until Slightly Damp by Azurine
Peter Parker and Wolverine sounds like an insane idea, especially in Ultimate-verse, but Az brings both the hot and the funny here, and how can you not love a fic with lines like this: Hey, what's a sponge bath between buddies, right? Logan is hurt bad, Peter’s hiding him, and the smell is going to get Peter in trouble. So what’s a superhero to do? Give the man a bath, right?

*

XMM/HP

Tom Riddle meets Erik Lehnsherr. Two men with both more and less in common than you'd expect. Let the creepiness begin.

*

Sandman/HP
Prelude by Nifra Idril
Tom Riddle poring over Roderick Burgess’s journals, as Alex Burgess tries to keep him entertained and away from the prisoner in the basement. Eeeee! *shivers*

Edited to add yuletide author names

I’m separating out the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide recs because they don't have authors' names attached at the moment, but once I add them to the Unfit Recs pages, they’ll just be listed with the rest of the fandom recs, and I'll add the authors' names when they're revealed.

also, how are Jack/Will or Xander/Willow rare pairings? But what the hell do I know?

Yuletide recs, by fandom:

Bend It Like Beckham
Friendship and Love by Claire
Bend It Like Beckham should inspire fic, because who *didn't* think Jules was in love with Jess? Well, Jules isn't sure, herself, and there's that whole Joe thing in the way, but she's working through it, and this fic follows her thoughts

Homicide: Life on the Street
All Is Calm and All Is Bright by Seana Renay
Frank visits Tim in prison at Christmas time. Oh, the guilt, the conversation, the perfect Frankentim-ness of it all will break your heart.

Northern Exposure
Oy Magic by Smara
Northern Exposure fic! Whee! Joel and Chris and blowjobs around a fire at the full moon. Guh. And a really good Joel-voice, I thought, which was necessary to make me believe this, because me? I adored Fleischman/O'Connell in all its irritating push-me/pull-you glory. But Chris... mmm...

Pirates of the Caribbean
Out of His Depth by Gloria Mundi
Oddly, I haven't recced any PotC fic, mainly because I haven't read much of it, though I have a list of links. But I really enjoyed this, with Will getting the tour of Tortuga, and discovering that Jack's beautifully tanned skin lingers in his mind's eye. They go for an unexpected moonlight swim, and Will realizes what he wants. Lovely.

Sandman
Alike in Ignorance by Eleanor K.
Desire intrudes on Dream's meeting with Hob Gadling. Amazingly lovely, in character (and Dream/Desire is a hard sell), and hot, with lush prose and an aching sense of need and confusion. *g* Brilliant.

Go. Read. Enjoy. Send feedback.

Also, lemme know if any links don't work, if you liked, you didn't like, you find the recs helpful or not...

Happy Holidays!

Buffy
32 Short Fics About Xander Harris by nwhepcat
32 drabbles, each a snapshot of Xandery goodness, from Welcome to the Hellmouth to Cleveland.

BtVS/Good Omens
California Dreaming by daegaer
Crowley is called to account by Hell’s accounting department. The Hellmouth in Sunnydale is his road home. Yes, Good Omens meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Better on the GO than on the BtVS, but still, a damn funny story.

BtVS/Sandman
The Waiting Room by Nestra
Death's not what Buffy expected. Excellent BtVS/Sandman crossover, that nails both first season Buffy and Death. It made me a little sniffly and still put a smile on my face, which is the essence of both BtVS and Sandman, don't you think?

The Boy Who Gave Away His Birthday by Mary Borsellino
Lovely fic about a boy who falls in love with Dream.
